Zitay has announced a new CFexpress Type A to SSD Adapter that will work with the Sony a7S III and the FX6.
Essentially, the Zitay CFexpress Type A to SSD Adapter is a dummy CFexpres Type A card that is connected to a ribbon cable that then goes to an aluminum Nvme enclosure.
The benefit of a device like this is that it allows you to record for far longer periods of time than if you were using a CFexpress Type A card. Currently, the largest capacity CFexpress Type A card that is available tops out at 160GB. With an NVMe SSD you can have capacities that go up to 4TB.
- Write speeds up to 700MB/s and read speeds up to 800MB/s
- Helps with heat dissipation
- Larger SSD capacity with lower cost
- Fit for selectable cameras that use the Sony CFexpress type A card: Sony FX6, A7S3
The Zitay CFexpress Type A to SSD Adapter has claimed write speeds of up to 700MB/s and read speeds of up to 800MB/s. This makes it suitable for recording 4K120p material from the FX6 and a7SIII.
The only obvious downside to the Zitay CFexpress Type A to SSD Adapter is that you will need to have the media card door open on your camera. You also then need to mount the NVMe enclosure to your camera.
To offload the material you can simply just put the dummy card into any regular NVMe card reader.
The Zitay CFexpress Type A to SSD Adapter retails for $179 USD and it is now available.
As a reference, a Zitay CFexpress Type A to SSD Adapter and a Samsung 2TB 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2 Internal SSD will set you back $498.99 USD.
A single Sony 160GB CFexpress Type A TOUGH Memory Card costs $398 USD.
