What did Pep Guardiola say after the defeat in the Champions League final?

The Spaniard confirmed his team had a good match against Chelsea.

Despite being rated higher than rival Chelsea, Pep Guardiola’s team played relatively poorly for most of the time of the 2020/21 Champions League final. Late efforts in the late game were not enough for The Citizens to fill the gap that Kai Havertz brought to Chelsea.

Answering after the game, the captain of The Citizens was quite positive: “It was a good game for us, a great season. This is a lesson and we will be back. The players showed courage and gave their all.

It’s Chelsea, it’s not easy to create chances. Just like before Lyon, Dortmund or PSG,

We often struggled in the first half and played better in the second. We deserved to get the goal, but it didn’t happen.

It’s still a dream to play in the final even without winning. Hopefully we can come back”.

Pep Guardiola will have to continue to wait to be able to lift the Champions League title for the third time. The 50-year-old strategist was twice crowned with Barcelona in 2009 and 2011. However, since then, Pep has not been successful once, whether at Bayern Munich or Manchester City.

The defeat to Chelsea was also the first time Pep Guardiola received a defeat in a cup final, while working at the Etihad. The only remaining time in the Spanish captain’s coaching career was in the 2011 Copa del Rey final.
