Faced with the impossibility of holding its most important fundraising event of the year, the Justice Pro Bono team had the idea of transporting the event to its donors by offering the delivery of boxed lunches concocted by promising chefs. .
The menus created by Francis blais, winner of the eighth season of Top Chef Canada, and Camilo Lapointe-Nascimento, winner of Les Chefs! 2020, were so successful that the boxes all sold out.
“We feel a lot of empathy and generosity on the part of our donors and the presenters of the event. They understood that we needed them more than ever, I believe ”, underlines the director general of the organization, Me. Nancy Leggett-Bachand, adding that the fundraising goal of $ 165,000 is well on its way to being met.
For the last sprint, she is counting on an online auction that continues until Sunday.
The money collected will allow Justice Pro Bono to support its current projects, but especially to organize one-off projects according to current events. For example, in 2020, the organization held a clinic in Montreal-North in response to the Black Lives Matter movement.
The event also helps ensure the survival of the Causes of Public Interest program, which is not currently supported by a financial partnership or a recurring grant. With this program, the organization offers support to citizens who have a precarious financial situation but do not have access to legal aid.
Justice Pro Bono also urgently needs to computerize its operations. “We should be able to install an electronic document filing system for our Public Interest Causes program. For the moment, all requests must be made by mail, ”says Me Leggett-Banchand.
The marriage of files with lawyers could then also be done electronically, rather than by phone or email.
