Viettel network operator is testing eSIM feature on smart watches in Vietnam. This information shows that brothers who use Apple Watch Series 3 / Series 4 LTE are about to have the opportunity to use voice and live messaging with a separate phone number on the watch.
A source from techrum said Viettel has successfully tested the eSim on the Amazfit Verge 2 smart watch, allowing smart watches to operate independently without having to be used in parallel with smartphones. eSIM on smart watch will be a separate phone number.
Apple Watch has a version with eSIM named on the box is Cellular and ring crown has red.
So you can skip the smartphone and bring the watch to go for a jog, exercise … while keeping in touch. Of course, the main phone number on the smartphone needs to have a feature to transfer calls to another number when not answering.
It is expected that Viettel can deploy eSIM feature on smart watch from quarter IV / 2019. Hopefully Apple Watch cellular will make one of the devices that support this feature. Currently Apple is providing eSIM to operators from 27 countries around the world.
