According to data from the Ministry of Information and Communications in coordination with Google, every 10 dongs earned from YouTube videos is malicious and toxic, 5.8 billion VND comes from videos of Vietnamese origin.
The above information was shared at the working session on rectifying advertising activities on cross-border platforms hosted by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) on June 25.
The representative of the Ministry of Information and Communications said that after the process of self-testing and coordinating with data from Google, YouTube’s parent company, the agency has discovered 55,000 videos with violent, malicious and illegal content, broadcast spreading fake news.
In a recent year, the two sides worked together to remove 8,000 videos with content of this type.
Because the content management mechanism on YouTube is still inadequate, the removal is, according to a representative of the Ministry of Information and Communications, “just like abducting a disc”.
According to data from Google, Vietnam is currently the world leader in the production of YouTube content that earns money from malicious videos. This business shared that for every 10 dong earned from malicious and malicious videos, 5.8 dong came from videos originating from Vietnam.
Vietnamese authorities as well as Google said the coordination of the two sides is still passive. Only when the Ministry of Information and Communications requests it to be removed, will YouTube perform and only remove each video instead of the whole channel of malicious content.
Besides, the ministry representative also said that although the malicious content only accounts for 0.1% of the video on YouTube, the video suggestion feature makes these contents spread very quickly and cause great impact.
In particular, channels with content violating the law, malicious YouTube is still enabled for monetization. Many videos earn $ 100-300, becoming a significant source of revenue for content-producing audiences. This source of money comes from domestic brands and businesses.
Businesses have known this since 2017, but there is no effective solution to interfere with ad delivery because this activity is completely controlled by Google and YouTube. Most businesses when receiving the notice of the Ministry of Information and Communications are very surprised and completely against their advertising placed in malicious videos.
For every VND 10 earned from malicious and malicious videos, VND 5.8 billion comes from videos originating from Vietnam.
By June 25, the Department of Broadcasting and Electronic Information, Ministry of Information and Communications discovered about 100 domestic brands violating advertisements in malicious clips.
Google and YouTube now have the function of buying ads directly, without agents, legal entities in Vietnam, paying via credit card. This is an illegal activity. The State does not collect any taxes on revenue from these activities.
Earlier, the Ministry of Information and Communications had warned dozens of businesses to have advertisements in reactionary clips, or their ads appeared alongside malicious videos.
This business list includes big names like FLC, AirAsia, travel car distribution company Chu Lai Truong Hai, some big universities in Vietnam such as Saigon International University, University of Commerce, Ha Noi national university…
