Unity’s fourth quarter financial report announced that the number of monthly active players has increased significantly


Unity released its financial report for the fourth quarter ended December 31, 2020, marking the end of Unity’s first fiscal year as a public company.

“Our fourth-quarter revenue was $220.3 million, an increase of 39% year-on-year, which fully reflects our focus on innovation and a strong market.” Unity Chief Financial Officer Kim Jabal said: “Our revenue expectations for the full year 2021 are between Between US$950 million and US$970 million, non-GAAP operating margins are expected to be 9% to 11%.”

Unity’s financial summary for the fourth quarter of 2020

  • Revenue reached US$220.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 39%.
  • Revenue from creating solutions was US$66.9 million, a year-on-year increase of 39%; revenue from operating solutions was US$134.3 million, a year-on-year increase of 55%; and strategic partners and other revenues were US$19.1 million, a year-on-year decrease of 19%.
  • Operating loss was US$80.8 million, accounting for 37% of revenue, while operating loss in the fourth quarter of 2019 was US$48.6 million, accounting for 31% of revenue.
  • Non-GAAP operating loss was $20.1 million, accounting for 9% of revenue, while non-GAAP operating loss for the fourth quarter of 2019 was $23.9 million, accounting for 15% of revenue.

Unity 2020 full year financial summary

  • Revenue was US$772.4 million, a year-on-year increase of 43%
  • The revenue from creating solutions was US$223.1 million, a year-on-year increase of 37%; the revenue from operational solutions was US$471.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 61%; and the revenue from strategic partners and other businesses was US$70 million, a year-on-year decrease of 12%.
  • Operating loss was US$274.8 million, accounting for 36% of revenue, while operating loss in 2019 was US$150.7 million, accounting for 28% of revenue.
  • Non-GAAP operating loss was US$50.6 million, accounting for 7% of revenue, while non-GAAP operating loss in 2019 was US$91.8 million, accounting for 17% of revenue.

In addition to revenue and profit, Unity also has an impact on developers who use its engine and gamers who use Unity. According to its data, 71% of mobile games ranked within 1,000 in the fourth quarter were developed with Unity. And Unity’s monthly active players in the fourth quarter were 2.7 billion, an increase of 63%.

In addition, Unity also pointed out that in the past 12 months ended December 31, 2020, 793 customers each generated more than $100,000 in revenue. As of December 31, 2019, this number was 600 customers.
