(Reporter, City News, 21st) The UN organization estimates that 28.7% of Brunei’s population will be 60 years or older in 30 years.
The United Nations World Population Outlook 2019 also shows that one in every 11 people worldwide is 65 or older, and by 2050 it will increase to 1 in 5 people who are 65 or older.
The population outlook also pointed out that the aging trend of the population will continue to intensify, and the number of elderly people aged 65 and older will grow much faster than other age groups. Last year, for the first time in history, this ethnic group surpassed the number of children under the age of 5.
The United Nations World Population Outlook also shows that in the next 20 years, all member states of the ASEAN will also become senior citizens.
