IFFHS has announced the best players in each position from 2011 to 2020 and only one Premier League player has made the list.
As usual every decade, the World Federation of Football Statistics and History – IFFHS for short – selects a roster of players rated as the best in each position, this time. is from 2011 to 2020.
In a decade when La Liga clubs were overwhelming, understandable when names from Real Madrid or Barcelona took up most of the squad.
In defense, controversy erupted when the only name representing the Premier League – the most attractive football tournament on the planet – was Virgil van Dijk was chosen to pair with the captain of Los Blancos Sergio Ramos.
Many fans feel unfair to Gerard Piqué and Thiago Silva or Giorgio Chiellini said that the Dutch midfielder has only emerged in the last 2 or 3 seasons, not worthy of standing in the ranks of the best midfielders of both past decade.
As for the position of two full-backs, one can argue between Phillip Lahm and Dani Alves to see who is number one, but Marcelo’s position on the left corridor is impregnable. In the wooden frame, no one deserves the title goalkeeper of the decade more than fellow Phillip Lahm, Manuel Neuer.
The three-man midfield consists mostly of faces from Barca and Real, led by the 2018 Golden Ball Luka Modric. Also named with the Croatian midfielder is teammate Toni Kross and “magician” Andres Iniesta.
In the remaining three positions of the strikers, of course 2 spots will be held by Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, two superstars who have dominated the football world over the years.
Having the honor of joining the two names above is the Polish “goalscorer” Robert Lewandowski, which means names like Luis Suarez, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gareth Bale, Sergio Aguero, Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are absent despite excellent performances over the past decade.
