According to TVA Nouvelles, several options are still under discussion for the renovation of the Mont-Joli courthouse. In particular, a fence is expected where the vans drop off the defendants to prevent an escape.

The task is complicated since three departments are involved in this file: the Treasury Board, the Department of Public Security and the Department of Justice.

Two options are available. The renovation of the current premises would entail an expenditure of 2.5 million dollars. A single-storey redevelopment would cost $ 7 million. It is this solution that obtains the favor of local elected officials.

“Security is the most important aspect in this case, by being all at the same level we meet today’s criteria for the judiciary, we do not let prosecutors and judges roam the corridors among the entire population. ยป, Said the mayor of Mont-Joli, Martin Soucy at TVA Nouvelles.

In July 2018, correctional officers argued their refusal to work, since they did not feel safe escorting inmates.

A meeting had taken place between elected officials and the Minister of Justice.
