The first time for 2 air conditioners "gun battle": the ability to filter dust, power, noise and cooling – VnReview

Air purifiers are a feature that many people are interested in buying air conditioners due to heavy air pollution, especially in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Understand that, many air conditioner manufacturers have launched products with additional air filtering capabilities. However, the air purification effect of these types of air conditioners is what many people wonder.

In this article, VnReview will proceed to compare 2 air conditioners with air filtering function from two typical air conditioners in the market today with the desire to help readers know the air filtering ability in practice like that. Come on. Besides, we also compare the ability of two machines in other basic factors such as cooling efficiency, noise and electricity consumption.

Two air conditioner models used for comparison are LG V10APF and Panasonic CU / CS-VU9UKH-8. Both are regulating one-way inverter in the high-end segment. The two machines have a similar capacity of 9000 BTU, are capable of air purification and use the current popular R32 refrigerant gas. LG Air Conditioner has Wi-Fi for remote control over the phone, a longer warranty period and a lower price of 3 million VND.

In terms of design, the air conditioner on LG air conditioner has a display of temperature and dust concentration information (PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10) along with an intuitive air condition notification icon. Meanwhile, the air conditioner of Panasonic air conditioner does not have a display screen but has a warning icon about air condition.

Two air conditioners are installed in two bedrooms with the same area in an apartment in Cau Giay area, Hanoi. The size of each room is about 18 square meters, slightly larger than the manufacturer's recommendation for air conditioners of 9000 BTU (15 square meters).

Air filtering capability before and after turning on the air conditioner

The first test between the two machines is comparing the air filtering capability and the highlight function of both products. In this test, we used a dedicated HT9600 air cleaner to measure two PM2.5 and PM10 dust indicators before and after turning on the air conditioner in the cooling mode as well as the blower only mode.

Both air conditioners are equipped with dust sensors in the environment. Air conditioner LG has a control panel showing 6 levels of air warning by color (blue, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple depending on the degree of dust in the air, in which purple is contaminated at Highest level) with PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 concentration of dust in real time in the room. Panasonic air conditioner only shows 2 warning lights about air condition: red is pollution and safe white.

During the time we tested the dust filtering capacity, the air environment in the test area often exceeded the safety threshold based on the measurement results by a dedicated dust meter. The two air conditioners often show warning of bad air condition depending on the level of reality. The good news is that after the turn on time at different time frames, both air conditioners prove the ability to filter dust effectively. The longer the time to turn on the air conditioner, the cleaner the air in the room.

30 minutes turn on the air conditioner in cooling mode: First trial time frame with short duration of 30 minutes in cooling mode in the afternoon of sunny day. Before turning on the air conditioner, the dust concentration in both rooms warned yellow, the beginning level had a negative impact on health.

Before turning on, PM2.5 and PM10 index of LG conditioner is 49 μg / m3 and 149 μg / m3, and Panasonic is 49 μg / m3 and 154μg / m3.

After 15 minutes of running the air conditioner, the dust concentration in the two rooms was reduced, showing that the dust filter has brought certain effects in a short time. Specifically, the rate of PM2.5 and PM10 dust in LG air conditioner is 30 micrograms / m3 (μg / m3) and 91 μg / m3, and Panasonic air conditioner is 39 μg / m3 and 117 μg / m3.

After 15 minutes of turning on the air conditioner, the dust index on both air conditioners decreased

After 30 minutes, the dust concentration continued to decrease significantly. The ratio of PM2.5 and P10 dust on LG air conditioner decreases to 26 μg / m3 and 78 μg / m3, while Panasonic air conditioner is 31 μg / m3 and 97 μg / m3. Thus, both machines reduce half of the dust compared to the original, in which the reduction of LG air conditioner is slightly better.

After 30 minutes, the dust index on both air conditioners decreased significantly, in which LG air conditioner decreased more.

Filtering efficiency of 2 conditioners after half an hour.

8 hours on air conditioner in cooling mode: Next, we tested the ability to filter the air when turning on the air conditioner in the overnight cooling mode with an 8-hour continuous time. Before turning on, the actual dust concentration in the room exceeded the safety threshold: PM2.5 and PM10 indicators were 57 μg / m3 and 911 μg / m3 respectively in LG air-conditioning room; and 64 μg / m3 and 1135 μg / m3 in Panasonic air-conditioned rooms. At that time, PM10 index was warned at serious pollution level. The cause of abnormally high PM10 index may be due to the way our location is air-conditioned about a few hundred meters with other apartments in the process of being built and the common apartment is open to welcome outside air.

Before turning on the air conditioner for 8 hours, the dust index in both rooms was high, especially the PM10 dust index.

8 hours is probably enough time to clean the room air. The fine dust concentration in both rooms has decreased dramatically, the air quality warning symbol on both air conditioners is shown to be green safe for health. Specifically, PM2.5 and PM10 in LG air conditioner room are only 4 μg / m3 and 26 μg / m3, slightly lower than Panasonic rooms with 14 μg / m3 and 47 μg / m3 respectively.

After 8 hours, the dust index decreased to a very clean level.

The dust filtering efficiency of two conditioners after 8 hours turned on overnight.

1 hour in the blower mode for room ventilation, no cooling. Not only in the cooling mode, test with the fan or dehumidifier (Dry) mode, the two air conditioners also filter dust effectively. Before this test, PM2.5 and PM10 dust concentrations were also in the threshold of health hazard if exposed for a long time. After 1 hour of turning on the fan-only mode without cooling, the actual dust concentration of both rooms is reduced with the same effect as the cooling mode.

Before turning on the air conditioner, both rooms showed dust at unsafe levels.

After 1 hour, the dust index has decreased. The LG dropped to the green level, while Panasonic was still on the yellow line but it was also safer.

The dust filtering effect of 2 conditioners after 1 hour turns on in the fan mode, without cooling.

Through the above tests, it can be seen that both air conditioners are effective in the ability to filter dust in the air when running in cooling, dehumidifying mode or just turning on the fan to ventilate indoor air. Between the two machines, LG air conditioner scored better than all tests. In addition to PM2.5 and PM10 dust, LG air conditioner also filters ultra-fine dust PM1.0 smaller size.

Efficient cooling and electricity consumption

The first days of summer in Hanoi this year the weather is still quite pleasant. During the time we experienced these two conditioners, the weather fluctuated around 30-32 degrees Celsius, there was a bit of heat but not the hot peaks of summer. Under such weather conditions, the two machines show good cooling efficiency and power consumption, especially for long periods of time. Also note that the power consumption as well as the cooling rate depends greatly on the difference between room temperature and ambient temperature, the more the difference, the more power is consumed.

Both conditioners maintain a stable temperature and humidity during use.

In two runs of 8 hours overnight with environmental conditions of about 31-32 degrees Celsius, the two conditioners maintained a stable and correct heat with the setting on the control panel, one set at 26 degrees Celsius and one day set. 27 degrees Celsius. The humidity during the overnight turnover is also maintained, fluctuating in the range of 65-70%, at a comfortable level.

With a short test in 2 pm in the afternoon when the ambient temperature is 32 degrees Celsius, the two machines take about 30 minutes to bring the room temperature down to 27 degrees Celsius in fast cooling mode, Jet Mode on LG air conditioner and iAuto on Panasonic air conditioner. In the fast cooling mode, the two air conditioners run at full capacity with a maximum power consumption of 1000W and the blower blows at the highest level. Feeling the fact that the cool air spreads in the room very quickly.

Power consumption for 30 minutes in quick cooling mode.

In terms of power consumption, LG air conditioner runs more power than Panasonic in short-term tests but is more economical when turned on for a long time. Specifically, at the 30-minute test in the rapid cooling mode with the ambient temperature of 31 degrees Celsius, LG air conditioner ran out of 0.98 numbers of electricity, while Panasonic ran out 0.35. In the 2-hour cooling test with the highest blower, the room temperature set 26 degrees and the ambient temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, LG air conditioner uses 0.81 electricity, and regulates Panasonic 0.56 electricity.

Power consumption for 8 hours in room cooling mode set 27 degrees, ambient temperature 31-32 degrees.

In two overnight runs of 8 hours (one day set room temperature 26 and one day set room temperature 27 degrees) with an ambient temperature of about 31 degrees, LG air conditioner used 0.78 electrics and 0, respectively. 93 electricity, while the air conditioner Panasonic runs at 0.93 power and 1.56 electricity respectively.

The above electricity consumption results also show that air conditioner will save more electricity when running continuously for a long time. Therefore, we do not think that switching on and off regularly to save electricity because the actual results are quite the opposite.

Noise measurement when operating

This is also a factor that consumers are interested in when choosing air conditioners. Inverter air conditioners are often promoted smoothly by manufacturers. The noise measurement process of 2 air conditioners is done at night, the time of quiet environmental noise, fluctuates around 35-36dB. Actual measurement results show that both air conditioners run quite smoothly when turning on the blower blowing at the highest level, in which LG air conditioner causes less noise.

Specifically, at 3 low, medium and high fan levels, the noise level of LG air conditioner is 38dB, 41dB and 47dB respectively, corresponding to Panasonic air conditioner of 41dB, 47dB and 52dB. When leaving the fan in automatic mode, the noise level of Panasonic air conditioner is stable at 42dB, while the LG air conditioner ranges from 37-42d because in this fan mode, LG air conditioner repeats the cycle of changing the wind flow. from low to high. Considering the noise level, Panasonic's automatic fan mode is more comfortable because of the constant noise, not decreasing and increasing as LG.

LG air conditioner: noise level according to 3 levels of low, medium and high airflow fan.

Panasonic air conditioner: noise level according to 3 levels of low, medium and high airflow fan.

To make it easier for you to imagine, the National Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment's standard for noise levels offers a special quiet area for learning and treatment such as libraries, schools and hospitals, which is 50dB during the day ( from 6-18h), 45dB at night (from 18-22h) and 40dB at bedtime (from 22-6h); For residential and hotels, the permissible noise level is 60dB during the day, 55dB at night and 50dB at bedtime.

In fact, two air conditioners produce a small noise, not enough to catch attention when running at low and medium wind fans. However, the noise of Panasonic air conditioner will be enough to make you notice when the fan blows at a high level.

The video compares dust filtering, electricity consumption, noise and cooling between LG and Panasonic air conditioners.

The test results of these two conditioners really make us happy because of the efficiency of the air filter function. Both air conditioners make the air in the room clean, less dusty and the result is better when turned on for a long time. Between two machines, LG air conditioner provides better measurement results in both PM2.5 and PM10 dust indexes.

The factors of cooling, electricity consumption, noise and humidity on both conditioners are quite good. However, we also note that at the time of testing, the ambient temperature is 31-32 degrees Celsius, not the peak summer temperature. If the ambient temperature is high at 35-37 degrees C, the electricity consumption will definitely be higher. We will continue to update the test of electricity consumption of the two machines on high sunny days to update more accurate parameters for readers. Between the two units, LG air conditioner scored at a smoother running power and less power when turned on for a long time, while Panasonic air conditioner saves more power when running for less than a few hours.
