ViewSonic 24 Inch Gaming Monitor

The Best High Definition Monitors for Gaming, Streaming and Surfing

In a 2018 study conducted by contact lens company Acuvue, they found that Americans spend an average of 1,700 hours per year in front of a computer. That equates to two months of every year spent looking at a monitor. While we recommend taking breaks as often as possible and limiting screen time, we know that for many of us, our jobs and our lives require us to be in front of the computer regularly. And if you’re going to be in front of a computer, make sure you’re looking at a high definition monitor.

High definition monitors are the standard when it comes to where to start when looking for a new computer monitor. Delivering clear and color-corrected visuals means less strain on your eyes and a better viewing experience, whether you’re playing video games or watching the latest viral video on YouTube.

A high definition monitor is a must-have for anyone who watches any type of video on their computer. By using an HD monitor, you’ll be able to see movies and shows in widescreen, which is how they were intended to be watched, and the monitor will be better equipped to keep up with the demands of graphics-heavy video games.

We’ve included three sizes of high definition monitors on our list because when it comes to screens, bigger isn’t necessarily better. On average, larger screens have a bigger price tag, but this is also greatly influenced by the features, including the resolution, pixel refresh speed, response time and more. Then there’s the less technical aspect, which is the physical size. Depending on your desk set up, it can be advantageous to forgo one larger monitor for two smaller monitors that sit side-by-side.

We’ve rounded up three great high definition monitors that work for gamers, streamers, and casual computer users. Check out more on our faves below!

1. ViewSonic 24 Inch Gaming Monitor

The ViewSonic 24 Inch Gaming Monitor comes with preset modes that customize your viewing experience whether you’re gaming, streaming, surfing and more.

Pros: The ViewSonic has a full HD 1920 x 1080p resolution, a refresh rate of 60 Hz and an ultra-fast response rate of 2ms, making this the best option on our list for gamers who want a tear-free, no lagging gaming experience. The screen includes a 50M:1 MEGA Dynamic Contrast Ratio that is perfect for a crisp and clear picture when streaming movies and shows, making this a great option for people who do most of their TV watching online. The ViewSonic can be wall mounted, another reason this screen is great not only for gamers, but for those who do a lot of video streaming. The ViewSonic also comes with dual 2W built-in speakers.

Cons: Avid gamers will likely want to used headphones or more robust speakers than the ViewSonic’s built-in speakers. Some customers note that they wish the stand was more adjustable.

2. HP 23.8-inch FHD IPS Monitor

The HP 23.8-inch FHD IPS Monitor has a micro-edge finish that makes it ideal for using with two monitors side by side.

Pros: Like the ViewSonic, the HP has a 23.8 visible screen with an HD resolution of 1920 x 1080p. The micro-edge IPS of the HP makes it ideal for using two monitors side by side, providing a seamless transition between the screens. Also, like the ViewSonic, the HP works with a Versa mount and can be used in Vertical or Portrait setting for web developers. The HP is great for a shared workspace because it can be tilted, pivoted, and adjusted by height to fit every user.

Cons: The HP has a 5ms response rate, which is fast enough for surfing and streaming but may not be suitable for advanced video games with high-end graphics.

3. Acer 21.5-Inch Screen LED Monitor

The Acer 21.5-Inch Screen LED Monitor is an affordable and compact monitor that delivers clear images, with an adjustable stand that is perfect for a student or casual home use.

Pros: The Acer has a 1920 x 1080P resolution and a response rate of 5ms. The slim monitor is lightweight, great for a small desk space, and uses Acer Adaptive Contrast Management for bright graphics. Smartphone users will like the Acers MHL port1, which allows users to hook up their smartphone to the monitor and see their small phone on a big screen while simultaneously charging their phone.

Cons: The Acer is the most affordable monitor on our list, but one of the reasons for its low price is because unlike the ViewSonic and HP, the Acer does not have a HDMI port.
