Signing of Kymco AK 550 driving around Taiwan – P.2: Conquering paradise

If anyone asks in this trip, what is the specialty that I eat the most, the answer is crab. But do not think you are ample with the king crab or snow crab, the crab here is the crab on the road. In the remaining 3 days of the journey, I have conquered all kinds of crabs in Taiwan, from hills and steep mountain passes to the plain with soft curves. And the most impressive thing is how the Kymco AK 550 took me through challenging roads.

You can not see Part 1 with the 1st and 2nd days of this trip This link to read.

Day 3

Journey from Yilan – Yilan to Nantou – Nantou, which has been forewarned, is not easy to chew, so the third day of the journey begins with a rain. Good luck or bad data, but still have to arrange to get started on time. Raincoat sets, rain boots and GIVI bags are waterproof to prove the value, even though I don't expect this very much.

When I finished, I did not forget to switch the driving mode of the AK 550 to Rain Mode with the speedometer table turning from green to orange. Compared to Power Mode, Kymco set up Rain Mode with lower engine output power and reduced throttle sensitivity. These two factors help the driver better control the vehicle in slippery road conditions and less grip.

If only the car with Traction Control traction control function is too great. But in general, with Rain Mode, I was confident enough to fight, because this is not the first time I have rained with AK 550. Other times, this time I have not been wet like another : D

Leaving the hotel under the drizzle of rain, I and the other brothers went to Route 9 to the north, about a few tens of kilometers before starting to enter the pass of the Beiyi Road Pass in the territory of New Taipei – New Taipei. There is a fact that in the experience team this time there are a few brothers who are not on the tour, but they can still control AK to pass the pass and stay safe with other old drivers. That's because the AK 550 has a weight distribution ratio in the front and rear axle ideal – 50:50. As a result, despite the weight of adding up to 240 kg of gasoline, the body reaction when cornering is still very balanced and balanced.

Especially, the drive system of AK 550 separates the engine from the suspension, instead of being combined as the scooter we often see. This greatly reduces the weight of the suspension, in a technique called unsprung weight. Reducing unsprung weight will help the suspension need less energy to force the force. From there, the car will give faster, more accurate feedback and better grip at high speeds.

The purity of the vehicle when cornering is not difficult, the head and tail always keep the necessary stability according to the driver's intentions. Evidence that I am not too tall, weighs only about 1/4 of the car but can still hold the crab smoothly. I confess that there are a few times when I run too hard because the more I run, the more successful I have to be a few times and have to use the brakes to hold back. At that time, I was really grateful to AK 550 because it was really a good car, the stability was surprisingly well maintained, not tossed or scratched at all.

Sharing a little experience with those who have not gone to many collective tours, especially those with difficult terrain such as mountain passes and unfamiliar roads, it is best to choose for yourself a hard-drive. At that time, you should focus on following your teammates with a safe distance and following the wheel to get used to the previous job. More or less when it is done, it will gradually become easier and softer. The key point here is to use smooth brakes and throttle to maintain reasonable speed with each corner.

After about 50 km of mountain pass along the road No. 9 with the average level of difficulty, the group returned to the plain, the weather was also brighter and the rain stopped completely. The break was a bit in a 7-11 store, and I continued on to the southwest, cutting across the eastern edge of Taoyuan – Taoyuan and Hsinchu – Hsinchu in turn 110 and No. 3. That day's lunch was a restaurant located in Miao Flip Province – Miaoli.

It seems that the journey to Nantou – Nantou in the afternoon was smooth sailing, but he always knew how to bring challenges to others, especially when they were least ready. The light rain is light and gentle, how much the afternoon rain is heavy and aggressive.

Things start to get worse when the group runs through Taichung – Taichung and goes to the 8th street, the water doesn't know where to go. And I went and forgot to attach the pinlock dew plate to it. Steaming phenomenon makes the vision obstructed, if you want to see the road, you must accept the wet face. Not only that, the rain water gradually seeps into the inside of the cone, both moist and cold.

After wrestling for over an hour and a half in the rain, I also reached Nam Dau city at about 4:30 pm. Temporarily stop for a bit, take a sip of coffee and I put all my strength to climb the rest of the third day's journey. In addition to the chorus seeing – not seen, wet – not wet, the helmet glasses come The steamed glass turns slightly due to the low temperature on the mountain.

Not only that, her husband's difficulties are more difficult, but the pass road is not harsh, but is continuously and continuously up and down. Plus a lot of small branches were rained down, so they had to pay attention to keep the oars. Thankfully, the Kymco AK 550 has never let me down. The engine is strong and maintains constant flexibility, never drowning for 30 seconds during the 30 km pass of the 14th Pass. Admittedly, AK is the spiritual fulcrum for me to conquer this road. I thought there was a time when I had to stop because of being abused …

Arriving at the parking lot of the hotel and taking the luggage and checking in, I like to go to heaven. But that's what I thought at that time …

Journey on my 3rd day in Taiwan

4th

Waking up in the foggy mountain, I thought that the sky today was quite beautiful. Although there is a bit of rain, it is too good compared to the previous day's weather. However, what happens immediately after breakfast is truly beyond my imagination and the brothers in the group. Strictly speaking, the distance of 20 km from the hotel to the north along the 14th road marked the peak of the trip, culminating in both literal and shadowy. It is both the highest possible road in Taiwan and the most difficult road during the trip.

The group's destination is located at an altitude of 3,275 meters above the Hehuanshan Mountains (peaks higher than 3,400 meters). And the journey up here is a true memory when this morning the fog surrounded, on one side was a cloudy sea. The higher the distance, the lower the distance, from 3-4 vehicles in the front gradually receded, only alone in the pass. Still the old reason, close glass froze, blurring the bad news to cling to the car ahead, only to see the road mark in front of the car … crawling slowly.

Mist so much that standing 3 meters away is no longer able to see each other's faces clearly : p

Thinking back on whether or not the Kymco AK 550 was good, I was lucky when the car I drove didn't use a zin tire, but it was on the Michelin Pilot Road 4 Scooter set for big distribution scooters. This set of tires is designed to have more grooves, while large grooves alternating small grooves. Especially, Michelin said that this tire has good cold tolerance, rubber is less hardened in low temperature conditions. Thanks to that, I was very reassured because knowing that the wheels always had good grip despite the fact that the road conditions were not good at all, little grip and slippery.

In fact, the place to check-in is the best of 3 young surprises and 3 cars of Kymco. It is unclear where you came from here before you. After taking pictures, watching this and other scenes, then get on the car and go to the car to go out and lose the form : D

Follow me, "Paradise" Wuling (https://goo.gl/maps/4LUKDDguyCDCWHoA7) is one of the very famous attractions in Taiwan. If the day is clear, the road will be more convenient and more poetic and majestic. Hopefully I will have a chance to return here on another day.

Regaining the spirit to continue the journey, I continued on to Route 14 and then turned to Route 8 to go east to Hualien – Hualien. This stretch of road is still mostly the same mountain pass, leaving Wuling for about 10 km, the fog gradually dissipates and the majestic scenery reappears.

The difficult part of the trip has almost been solved, so my psychology and the brothers in the group are also more comfortable. One thing that makes AK different from the majority of other maxi-scooters is the design of a powertrain that separates the engine from the suspension. This greatly reduces the weight of the suspension, in a technique called unsprung weight. Reducing unsprung weight will help the suspension need less energy to force the force. From there, the car will give faster, more accurate feedback and better grip at high speeds. The pass sections stretching for 80 km followed by the time when the AK 550s sprung silk. The more beautiful the road goes, the smoother the car runs.

The sad thing is that it is almost the last good pass of the journey. After coming to Hoa Lien for lunch, I packed my bag to the south along the 11th and the 9th street. In general, everything suddenly became strange when returning to the national highway straight to Dai Dong. – Taitung. The 4th day seems to be closed with the highlight of Taiwan's heavenly journey.

As always, meals in Taiwan are at least 10 items : D

The following are some interesting pictures on the 4th day of the journey.Last day

On the last day of the journey, I returned from Taipei to the starting point from 4 days ago in Kaohsiung: Taiwan Kymco factory. The distance that day was only 200 km, relatively light, so I mostly spent the rest of the time watching, experiencing and enjoying the comfort of AK after a few days of hardship. : D

There was also time to try the Noodoe system to try it out at home to see if the application connected Kymco's car and phone was different. The good result is that the interface is still very easy to use, especially the navigation feature still has the option to display English. Details of how this feature works, including Vietnamese voice directions you can review in this link.

In addition, with Noodoe I can see the weather forecast and customize the look of the dashboard whatever, as long as I like it. In case you do not remember the position of your car in the crowded car park of the union, I just need to select the vehicle search item in the application on the phone is able to know which corner the car is located.

One thing I have to admit is that the conditions of traffic, roads and auxiliary works in Taiwan are very good. From roads in streets, highways, highways and most quality pass roads, the ride is very pleasant. Evidence is that in addition to Kymco's group, on this Sunday I caught many other big motorbikes groups are also on the road. Calculated, I ran AK 550 on average 80 km / h thought it was fast but met the local players to see that they actually run. Hopefully I will soon have a chance to come back and try again but the road is excellent in Taiwan.

A Taiwanese biker prepared to leave after stopping to rest

After going to the coastal winds and "hitching" a short pass along the 9th line, I also reached the lunch spot in Binh Dong – Pingtung. This can be seen as a break-up point with other groups of vehicles in this Kymco experience group, because the meal is finished depending on the territory of residence in Taiwan where the groups will share in different directions, the person who goes home North, people go to Central. As for my Vietnamese brethren, I will return to Kaohsiung to finalize the travel book.
