(Techz.vn) In 2020, the State-owned group Viettel will officially commercialize 5th generation mobile network technology, marking a milestone in Vietnam mastering 5G.
Ignoring China’s Huawei, Viettel – Vietnam’s leading telecommunications company will use self-developed 5G technology. As expected, the commercialization of 5G will be started in June and deployed nationwide 1 year later.
Mr. Le Dang Dung, Acting Chairman of Viettel Group, said: “5G is a decisive factor for the success of a digital society. All countries are racing to deploy 5G to demonstrate progress. That is why Viettel considers 5G the most strategic project of the group. “
Viettel’s plan was soon announced on January 17 when it completed the first test of video calling using the connection on locally manufactured equipment. Viettel also said that to make a call, it takes 6 months for Viettel High Technology to research and develop on hardware and software.
In the world today, only a few companies have successfully developed commercial 5G technology including: Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung Electronics and ZTE. It can be seen that Viettel will become the 6th company to develop its own 5G technology, and be a telecommunications operator with 110 million customers in 11 countries.
Talking about Viettel and the event marking the milestone of 5G mastery in Vietnam, the Financial Times quoted the comment of Carl Thayer, emeritus professor at the University of New South Wales Canberra: “5G technology is a new frontier and Viettel want to keep up with it for its own sake in developing new technology “.
It can be seen that, besides the way of economic, real estate, … in the field of technology, Vietnam is also developing strongly and achieving significant achievements. In parallel with Viettel’s deployment of 5G technology, Vingroup has also signed a cooperation agreement with Qualcomm and Fujitsu to produce 5G compatible smartphones from June last year.
