In the mid-range and high-end segment there is a strong race between brands. Especially the high-end range with the peak of each brand releasing 2 series in 1 year. But another area that is equally vibrant is the low-end segment. Although it is cheap, but its market share is the largest so the big guys can not ignore it, even it is Samsung. When the company constantly launches other versions in the segment, sometimes even makes users dizzy when choosing.
With the latest Samsung Galaxy A01 in this budget segment, what value does Samsung bring to us? Let me do a detailed review of this phone.

Review phone details Samsung Galaxy A01
Overall, the design style of this Samsung Galaxy A01 is no different from its predecessors. Still a water drop screen, no fingerprint sensor and dual camera. But going deeper, you will see its differences.
The front is a fairly small IPS screen, but occupies most of it here. The 5.7-inch screen size is not as large as the mid-range phones and above, but still enough.
The sides are quite thin and the top bezel is similar. But its lower bezel is quite thick, of course you can not ask too much for a phone screen less than 2 million.
The screen has a pretty large water drop notch for a 5MP selfie camera. Furthermore it also contains the necessary sensors here. Generally speaking, phones under 2 million have such design is quite good already.
The back is made of plastic and has a pleasantly matte finish. You will have 3 colors corresponding to the main color of the device are Black, Blue and Red.
It also has a dual camera cluster in the upper left corner consisting of a 13MP main camera along with a 2MP depth sensor. Along with 1 LED is placed vertically in this corner. We won’t have a fingerprint sensor for the security of this phone. It is a pity that competitors still have similar prices.
The most special feature of this phone is that the speakerphone is moved to the back. You can see in the image above, it’s in the lower left corner. This feature seems to resemble some of the Nokia models we have seen recently.
The edges are left
The chassis is also made of plastic like the back and is painted in uniform colors. It’s not as thin as the high-end lines, but does its job well. The right edge has the power button along with the sim tray, it is placed slightly in contrast to other Samsung phones, right.
Volume up and down keys are moved to the left. Wherever it is, it works very well, the buttons are reasonably arranged and it doesn’t float out of the chassis.
The top edge has a 3.5 headphone jack. In general, we don’t have everything on the bottom edge.
The bottom edge has only one charging slot with the main microphone. I am very happy that the charging slot is USB type C which allows for faster charging and data transfer speeds. This is not the case with some other competitors at this price point.
To reduce the cost of this phone, Samsung has used PLS screen technology which is an improved version of IPS. It has many advantages such as cheaper price, brighter screen, better display, and slightly better viewing angles. But on the contrary, it is thinner and more fragile if there is a collision.
This 5.7-inch screen is quite small with a 19: 9 aspect ratio, so it is short and wide, not as long as the current 20: 9 model.
This screen resolution is only 720 x 1520 pixels but it really cannot be higher for such a low-cost phone. It still produces good quality images with 294 ppi pixel density.
Like other Samsung products this year, the Samsung Galaxy A01 also runs Android 10.0 with OneUI 2.0 interface.
If you have experienced the operating system and customization of OneUI 2.0 then you will feel it will work smoothly in this A01. But smooth or no longer depends partly on the hardware configuration, right.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 is again powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 439 (12 nm) octa-core chip. It’s not Samsung’s own Exynos chip anymore. This is a reasonable choice because Exynos does not have forte in these low-end lines.
The octa-core (4 × 1.95 GHz Cortex-A53 & 4 × 1.45 GHz Cortex A53) combined with the Andreno 505 GPU is enough for the day-to-day operation of this handset.
Looking at the evaluation scores as shown below, we can see that the performance score of Snapdragon 439 is not too high. Although it is still about 20% more powerful than its predecessor, it is still just a low-cost chipset. It can’t be compared to the higher end models, but it should cover the needs of a $ 2 million phone.
You cannot use Samsung Galaxy A01 to play games that require high configuration. For example PUBG moblie is not playable. League can be played a bit, but lagging will make you bored. But light games like pikachu are comfortable =)
The Samsung Galaxy A01 features only dual rear cameras including:
- 13 MP, f / 2.2, 28mm (wide), 1 / 3.1 “, 1.12µm, AF
- 2 MP, f / 2.4, (depth)
The photo capture software features are also very complete on this A01. However, there is only 1 main camera and there is no support for super wide-angle or telephoto cameras, so it looks more monotonous.
Fortunately, it has an autofocus mode, so whether you’re shooting casual or portrait, the phone does a great job. That is a significant advantage of this A01 there.
The image quality from the main camera is really good although it only has 13MP resolution. The colors are well balanced, although the vividness and color saturation do increase a bit. Of course this is a common feature of Samsung cameras so you need to know that.
With depth sensor and autofocus support, you still have good portraits from the Samsung Galaxy A01. Subject recognition is very good, whether it’s people or things. Of course, the bezel will not be too uniform like high-end phones, but in my opinion this price is too great.
The front of the Galaxy A01 is equipped with a 5MP camera, in general the image quality is acceptable. Having selfies to post on a virtual social network is simple. But if you want better photos, you have to invest in a better phone.
The Samsung Galaxy A01 is equipped with a battery of only 3,000mAh, which is a really low level of capacity compared to competitors. But when I think about it, that’s enough, because you can’t play games, so much battery doesn’t do much.
With this battery capacity, you will comfortably use 1 day with normal tasks. Listen to music, watch movies, surf social media… as long as you don’t play games. It doesn’t come with fast charging so you’ll have to wait quite a while for a full charge.
Compare with competitors
In the price range of the Samsung Galaxy A01 there are also other options that you might need to think about. It may not be as powerful in terms of photography, but strong otherwise.
The first is the one Vsmart Star 4 With the same processor, the price is a bit higher, but superior in many ways. The first is a larger screen with more durable IPS LCD technology. The camera continues to be equipped with an ultra wide-angle lens instead of a depth sensor, but it still captures good portraits. It has a fingerprint sensor and the pn capacity is also higher
Vivo Y1s is another option for you. It has the same processor, no fingerprint sensor, and only one rear camera. But it has a larger screen with IPS LCD technology and a battery capacity of more than 4000mAh
Xiaomi Redmi 9C is a better option with a slightly higher price tag and a comparable processor. It outperformed everything, however, with a much larger screen and good display. The camera is equipped with a set of 3 for adding 1 macro lens. Furthermore it has a fingerprint sensor along with a huge 5000mAh battery.

8.7 Point evaluation
Samsung Galaxy A01 owns a thin and light design, camera for good image quality, nice display and configuration just enough for basic needs.
- Compact and lightweight design, bearing the characteristics of Samsung
- The display is good
- Take beautiful photos with excellent font removal capabilities
- The front camera has a built-in cleaning effect without the need for an additional APP
- Processor not powerful but okay with the price
- Speakerphone quality is not very good when listening to music at high volume
- Battery capacity is not high compared to the competition
- No fingerprint sensor
In short, the Samsung Galaxy A01 is a not bad choice for the price range below 2 million. It’s really good with a nice display along with good photography at this price point. But on the contrary, this screen is thinner and more vulnerable, so you need to take better protection. The chipset is not powerful, but it is enough for the requirements of the phone.
