We’ve already heard that Asus is preparing a second generation of the ROG Phone to delight us with. The 2018 ROG Phone was a dedicated gamer handset with a super impressive 90 Hz AMOLED display, an RGB lit logo on the back, and a ton of accessories meant to enhance the gaming experience on the device. Now, it’s time for generation 2. What will it have in store for us?According to leaks, the ROG Phone 2 will be among the first handsets to rock the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus processor — a supercharged version of the flagship SoC from earlier this year. It’s said to bring a 15% boost in graphics performance an a slight improvement in peak clock speeds.
A listing from Chinese certification agency TENAA has just popped up, revealing more juicy tidbits. Namely, we now know the size of the battery inside the ROG Phone 2. And that is a massive 5,800 mAh cell! That’s bigger than a lot of the spare powerbanks you can buy out there! Granted, the original ROG Phone also had a fairly hefty 4,000 mAh juicebox, but the second generation just takes that to another level.
How bulky will that make it? The TENAA listing says the ROG Phone 2 will measure at 6.73 x 3.05 x 0.38 in (170.99 x 77.6 x 9.78 mm). That’s bigger than last year’s ROG Phone, which was sized at 6.25 x 3.00 x 0.34 in (158.8 x 76.2 x 8.6 mm) and even bigger than the OnePlus 7 Pro, which we already feel is a bit bulky with its 6.40 x 2.99 x 0.35 inches (162.6 x 76 x 8.8 mm). But hey, it’s a gamer’s phone, so size is not an issue if the performance and battery life are there! At least we’ll also get a bigger screen — the ROG Phone has a 6-inch display, the ROG Phone 2 will have a 6.59-inch panel.
