Review phone details Oppo A72
Eye-catching fashion design
If you look from the outside, you certainly do not think this is a cheap phone. A large display, quite thin frame, sleek and stylish finish is what makes it feel premium.
When holding OPPO A72 in your hand, you will feel a solid feeling, neither heavy nor light. The rounded edges are seamless, so your hands won’t get caught by the edges anymore. Despite the plastic finish, it’s shiny, and it’s also the “stop” for the fingerprints. You will have 4 color options with this model, including: Twilight Black, Stream White, Sky Blue, Aurora Purple.
The front is a 6.5-inch IPS LCD screen for a pretty good experience. The design edges are extremely thin, but the chin is still quite thick.
In this display is a small hole punch for its 16MP selfie camera. The perforated section placed in the upper left corner is very reasonable, it will not affect the viewing experience split you. Moreover, this is a hidden corner so when you play the game will not be affected.
At the top is the location of the speaker strip, which is quite carefully hidden at the edge of the screen and the chassis.
The back is finished with plastic. Although using inexpensive materials, but thanks to the glossy finish it creates a more luxurious feel. There are light beams gathered on the camera cluster if you tilt the camera and change the angle of view. Moreover, it has pretty lines that show the youthfulness in design.
The most prominent here are the quartet of cameras framed in a rectangular block. It doesn’t emerge from the surface of the back, but will nonetheless create channel when placed on a table top.
In addition, a new feature here is that the OPPO logo is no longer located along the camera but is moved to the opposite side of the model information.
The edges are left
The chassis is still plastic, so the grip feels very uniform with the back. It is just as smooth. As usual, the physical connections and buttons are located here.
The right side has only one button, the power button. It is slightly beveled flat and recessed compared to the chassis. It’s wobbly but still does its job well. You will have a fingerprint sensor integrated with this power button. In fact, this isn’t the fastest sensor to unlock, it unlocks even more slowly than 2D face recognition. So you need to add swipe unlock gestures with facial recognition if you want to increase security with fingerprints.
You can see the left side is the position of the volume up and down keys along with the sim tray. The volume keys are pretty solid and work very well, and the keys are independent of each other. The sim tray we will have 2 positions for the sim card with an independent position for the memory card.
The top edge is empty, but the bottom edge is where a lot of things gather. It is 3.5 headphone jack, main microphone, charging slot and external speaker. One thing is to praise is that the charging slot is equipped with USB type C with charging speed and connection much faster than micro USB that many cheap products still use.
The Oppo A72 is equipped with a 6.5 inch IPS LCD screen. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2400 with an aspect ratio of 20: 9. The A72’s IPS panel has a pixel density of 405PPI, which is sharp enough for a distance of normal use.
The maximum brightness announced by Oppo is 480 nits but I measured it was 505 nits, which is higher but not significantly. With the LCD screen, this brightness is absolutely enough for good use indoors but outdoors it is not bright enough. But this IPS panel will give you quite a good viewing angle.
The contrast of this screen is not high. Measurements show that the black value is 0.55 cd / m², which results in a screen contrast ratio of less than 1000: 1. Meanwhile, the opponents are much higher.
Oppo A72 runs Google’s Android 10 operating system with its own ColorOS 7.1 UI. If you’ve used an Oppo phone before, you won’t see what’s new about the device’s software and interface.
But if you are new to ColorOS then you will see brighter shades and lots of additions. There’s nothing particularly bad about ColorOS, but you get a bunch of extra apps you probably won’t ever use.
Other features commonly found on Oppo phones are still very welcome such as application duplication, 2nd space, system-wide dark mode …
Moreover, it is interesting that the GPS system of this phone is very accurate. To evaluate the accuracy of GPS, we can run parallel and compare it with another professional device, Garmin Edge 500. The results show that the GPS accuracy is very good, the location is determined by GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and BeiDou satellite systems took place quite quickly.
The Oppo A72 uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 chipset. It is an 8-core chipset consisting of Cortex-A73 (Kryo 260 Gold) clocked at up to 2 GHz, accompanied by four Cortex-A53 (Kryo 260 Silver) cores operating at clock speeds up to 1, 8 GHz. Chipset integrated graphics Adreno 610. Comes with the processor is 4GB RAM and 128GB ROM
This configuration actually gives quite adequate performance for its price point. If so, you don’t compare with flagship phones like the iPhone 11 Pro or Samsung S20 or Note 20 series. So you will find that this phone satisfies all your daily activities. Newspaper, surfing the web, social networks, watching movies … are all comfortable. But to play the game is somewhat limited!
A little look at the overall benchmark comparison as shown above, we can see that the Snapdragon 665 on the A72 is lagging behind by products of the same price but equipped with Snapdragon 720G. It’s even surpassed by Samsung’s Exynos 9611 on the M31 for a much cheaper price tag.
Ability to play games
Game Space is a pre-installed application that runs in the background on the Oppo A72 phone. It works to turn off notifications and block background processes while you play games. This process is believed to contribute to increased gaming performance. When I try out some popular games, I see nothing different that really makes the gaming experience more enjoyable.
You should keep in mind that this is a low-cost phone, you will not be able to ask for a high configuration with the best graphics. For PUBG mobile game, you will only play smoothly at the lowest graphics level only. More than that, it also sometimes drops frames.
For Lien Quan mobile game, the graphics requirements are a bit lower, you can play comfortably at the lowest configuration settings. With this low profile, you can play smoothly from the beginning to the end of the game, even the total teamfight will not lose the frame miserably.
Oppo A72 is equipped with four rear cameras while we see the added 2MP camera seems to make enough sets. It is beautiful indeed, but features are very limited. These include:
- Main camera 48MP f / 1.7, 1 / 2.0 “, 0.8µm, PDAF
- Super wide-angle camera 8 MP, f / 2.2, 119˚, 1 / 4.0 ″, 1.12µm
- Depth sensor 2 MP, f / 2.4
- 2 MP, f / 2.4 black-and-white lens
Oppo A72 comes with a 5000mAh Li-Po battery. Battery life may be affected by what you do with the phone. But you should comfortably get through the day with at least 20% battery remaining.
After a simple battery test with video playback, the battery will drop from 100% to 80% in a few hours. That means you will have about 10 hours to watch the video continuously.
Another test about the ability to surf the web with wifi, your phone will last for nearly 17 hours. This is fine, but its competitors could do even better.
Oppo A72 comes with 18W fast charging, however with 5000mAh battery you will need almost 2 hours to recharge the phone.
Compare with competitors
Comparing at the same price we can have many other options from competitors. First must come to the Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro. It has a more powerful 720G snapdragon for gaming, bigger screen, comparable battery but 30W fast charging. In addition, the camera of the Note 9 Pro is better with a 64MP main camera and adds a professional macro camera instead of a black and white lens like the A72.
Next up is the one Realme 6Equally configured, but it excels at a 90Hz refresh rate. Also its main camera is 64 MP along with a more professional 2MP macro camera. Realme 6 has a smaller battery, but in return it has a 30W fast charger included, you can fully charge in just 55 minutes.
8.8 Point evaluation
The OPPO A72 is a cheap mid-range phone with an eye-catching design and good battery life. But that’s not enough for it to outperform its peers!
- Eye-catching design
- Good battery life
- The camera is in good light
- There is hardly any heat during game play
- LCD screen contrast is not good
- Performance is not as strong as the competition
- Low light camera capture
- Long battery charging time
- The price is not attractive
The Oppo A72 is a cheap mid-range phone that is quite good for everyday tasks. You can use it for games too, but it’s definitely not comparable to higher-end phones. Even worse than competitors at the same price. Its camera works quite well in bright enough conditions, but in low light it is almost unusable.
