Review Huawei Mediapad 7 Youth tablet – VnReview

At the moment, the ability to make phone calls is not new but not yet popular with users. In addition to the two major companies, Samsung and Asus, we see that most of the devices that integrate this feature are mainly small-name manufacturers from China and Taiwan.

Tablet capable of calling is a product line that has existed for a long time but only attracted attention within the past year, with quite successful products such as Asus FonePad or Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus. Huawei, a Chinese manufacturer, also joined the game very soon, but recently it started to introduce its tablets in Vietnam with three products: MediaPad 7 Vogue, MediaPad. 7 Lite and most recently MediaPad 7 Youth. The common feature of these tablet models is that they have a 7-inch screen, are cheap and can call and send messages.

It can be said that the tablet has a calling function is an attractive choice for young people who like to move a lot but can still keep up to date with news, surf, and entertainment. When needed, this product can make calls and texts like a phone at your convenience.

The product we reviewed in this article is Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth. With a “soft” price, 3.99 million, whether this tablet can compete with products in the segment under 5 million typical such as Asus FonePad 7 2, Lenovo Idea Tab A3000, Asus MeMO Pad HD 7, Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite, HP Slate 7 …

Design

Compared to its predecessor, MediaPad 7 Vogue, the appearance of MediaPad 7 Youth is only slightly different when the speaker speaker slot is on the top and slightly different in the plastic case. MediaPad 7 Youth feels softer and simpler. The tablet also has a conversation function but is reduced a few details to be cheaper to compete with devices with similar features of other brands.

Despite being a low-cost tablet, Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth Pretty good design. The device has a moderate size (193.4 x 120.6 x 9.9 mm), weighs 350g, the edges are slightly beveled so I can fit the device with just one hand without feeling a need for it.

The remarkable point is that, although directed to the low-cost segment, Youth still offers users an aluminum design, which looks quite luxurious. The aluminum piece is firmly fixed on the back of the device, which is fixed and does not open. This aluminum shell is covered with a smooth silver paint, hard to scratch and not fingerprints. The contacts are meticulously machined, tightly assembled, free from buckling, Sure more than the cheap tablet models on the market.

The device we value has an elegant color. The frame is made of white hard plastic, not shiny, it seems hard to scratch and difficult to get dirty. The two front, back of Youth have contrasting colors. The screen border of the device is a bit thick, but this is also a design that helps the fingers can be placed comfortably without fear of wrong touch in the screen. However, this phenomenon still happens occasionally because the notification bar is located in the right corner of the screen where the bottom of the thumb can be touched.

Three common touch keys are located in the left corner of the screen

There is a camera on the top of the screen but there is no speakerphone, so when you are talking, you must use a headset or turn on the speaker at the back. This is a small disadvantage because if you open the speaker, it will affect the surrounding, no longer privacy while using headphones, you must invest in Bluetooth headphones or receivers using wired headphones. Being aware of this drawback, Huawei currently has promotions, giving Bluetooth headsets for customers buying tablets.

The back camera of the device is centered and not protruding; I appreciate this design compared to many other cheap machines. Just below the camera is the speakerphone, not the flash. On this product, the flash is cut off because it does not improve much for photography but increases the cost if integrated. The speaker is slightly concave and easy to get dirty and difficult to clean, is a mono speaker, but the sound quality is quite good.

The back is fastened by an aluminum housing

The hard buttons of the device, including the power button and the volume up and down buttons are located on the right side. These buttons have not felt good in part because it is located on the chamfer of the edge, partly because it is a bit thin. Below the right side is a sim tray (standard SIM card – mini SIM) and a microSD card that can be hot plugged, with a dust-proof outer cover. 3.5mm headphone jack, audio hole and microUSB port are located on the bottom edge of the device.

Screen

Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth uses 7-inch screen, 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, pixel density of 170 ppi. This pixel density is lower than Nexus 7 (216 ppi) and higher than iPad Mini (162 ppi). It meets the touch screen sensitivity when used normally.

The screen does not have a high contrast, displaying a slightly faded color. With glossy mirror screen, sometimes you will have to change the viewing angle to see clearly, but unfortunately the viewing angle on this machine is not good. If you hold the device horizontally with the word “Huawei” on the right, the right angle of the center of the screen is the best viewing angle, brightness and display the most true colors. If you look from the bottom, you’ll see the screen is brighter and the view from above is darker. Fortunately, the left and right viewing angles are quite wide and even.

Medium quality screen

When measured with specialized equipment, the maximum brightness of the device is 324 nits, quite good, but the accuracy of the color display of the machine is poor. When used indoors, you can reduce the screen brightness a bit, but outdoors should be high brightness.

Camera

The rear camera of the device has a resolution of 3.2 MP, the front camera is 0.3 MP that supports video calling. As the tablet in the same segment, the camera on the machine has a medium resolution, does not support many advanced options, and quality is enough to share on social networks. Low-light capabilities of the machine is also not good, in any case, the parameters in the photo are Aperture 2.8, speed 1 / 100s, ISO 89.

The plus point of the device is supporting many effects and creative customizations such as panorama mode, negative (negative), Sepia, custom white balance (daylight, cloudy …), night mode, timer …

Camera is not protruding on the back like many other cheap machines

Like the shooting mode, the camera’s movie function is nothing special. The ability to capture low light, slow focus and vibration are the weak points of the camera when recording movies. The maximum movie resolution supported by the device is 720p.

Feature

MediaPad 7 Youth supports WiFi and 3G connections. It can expand the memory with a MicroSD card, the ability to connect to a computer and a SIM slot for calling and texting.

The interface for calling and messaging are both simple and easy to use. Numeric keys, large and clear digits, can set the ringtone, vibrate mode, send a message or manage contacts. I use the device within 10 days and almost no signal loss, flickering with the sim of Vina network, stable call quality.

Interface for calling and messaging

Mediapad 7 Youth runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system with Huawei’s typical Emotion UI, more than 5GB of free memory. Unlike many other Android tablets and phones, MediaPad 7 Youth has a small notification bar located at the bottom right instead of the top, the left corner is 3 familiar touch keys. Such arrangement on a tablet, when used familiar I find it more convenient to use because it is very close to the thumbs on the sides.

Performance

Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth is configured with a 1.6 GHz dual-core processor, PowerVR SGX 540 graphics and 1 GB RAM. With this configuration, the device can watch HD movies well, play heavy 3D games such as Asphalt 8, Riptide GP. However, when playing continuously for about 15 minutes, the device heated up quite a lot, especially the area under the rear speaker.

When measured by software with AnTuTu X, the device achieved a score of 15091, while with the Quadrant is 4316. These are decent scores.

Battery life

Like its predecessor, Youth also uses a 4,100 mAh battery, and gives unimpressive battery life. Specifically, the time to watch HD movies continuously is nearly 6 hours, the time to fully charge the battery is 3 hours and 15 minutes. During normal use, the total time I surf the web is about 1 hour, play 30 minutes, call 30 minutes, watch movies 30 minutes, by the end of the working day the battery is still more than 20%.

As such, Youth has less impressive movie battery life, inferior to the 8 hours and 41 minutes of the Asus MeMO Pad HD 7, Asus Fonepad (7 hours), Asus Memo Pad (5 hours 36 minutes) and its predecessor Vogue ( 6:40

minute). However, the machine is enough to meet your needs in a day.

Conclude

Currently, in the tablet market, the price is about 4 million, the opponent of MediaPad 7 Youth is Asus FonePad 7 2 (price of 4.99 million VND), Lenovo Idea Tab A3000 (price of 4.69 million VND), Asus MeMO Pad HD 7 (VND 3.29 million), Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite (VND 4.99 million), HP Slate 7 (VND 3.49 million), …

Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth has the plus point is the ability to make calls, text messages and built-in 3G connectivity – a factor that is very interested in Vietnam. It also has a beautiful design, moderate configuration, besides a number of weaknesses such as limited visibility when used outdoors or not impressive battery life. However, to find a tablet capable of making calls, currently users only have options for over 4.5 million, so the price of 3.99 million for Huawei MediaPad 7 Youth can be a benefit. So.
