With high battery life and elegant design, Dell Venue 11 Pro is one of the best hybrid laptop models on the market today. The phone has a starting price of only 499 USD (about 10.5 million).
With a quad-core Atom processor, 1080p screen and lots of connectivity, Venue 11 Pro is currently one of the best tablets available today. In addition, this tablet can be combined with many types of dock to "transform" into a laptop or a small desktop. But is Venue 11 Pro's true strength worth $ 499? Let's LaptopMag Find answers through the review below.
– Exquisite design, sturdy
– High performance
– High battery life when attached to the keyboard
– Full HD color screen
– The screen is slightly dark
– MicroSD card slot is not convenient
The Venue 11 Pro tablet's back is covered with a layer of anti-fouling soft texture that creates a luxurious and rugged hand feel. The sides of the body are made of magnesium material no less advanced. 8MP camera is installed in the upper position of the back. Dell and Intel logos are placed along the center of the back, while the NFC logo is located on the upper left. However, the Intel logo seems to be a bit redundant and makes the user feel confused.
Meanwhile the front of the device is a touch screen, 2MP camera and prominent Home button at the bottom.
Compared to most other tablet models, Venue 11 Pro has a lot of slots and connectors: from microSD reader to HDMI connection and Noble lock. The microSD slot is a useful addition, but the annoying thing is that you will have to use the tip to open this slot cover.
On the left of the camera body is a USB 3.0 port, a microUSB port, a headphone / microphone slot, and a silver volume control button. The power button is located on the right side of the camera body. The lower body of the machine has a magnetic connector, a separate port to combine with the keyboard and dock for the table. Venue 11 Pro has only one speaker.
Although it looks very advanced, Venue 11 Pro is slightly oversized: it weighs up to 0.72 kg, heavier than the Surface 2 (0.64 kg) and ASUS Transformer Book T100 (0.54 kg). . The body of Venue 11 Pro (27.9 x 17.6 x 1 cm) is also bigger than the Surface 2 (27.4 x 17.2 x 0.89 cm) and Transformer Trio (26.4 x 17 x 1 cm) ), but this is also quite understandable because competing products only have 10-inch screens while the Venue 11 Pro's screen is nearly 11 inches.
The Venue 11 Pro's 10.8 inch resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels is not bright. Brightness of Venue 11 Pro in test of LaptopMag It is only 174 lux, only half of the average of 359 lux of tablet models available on the school. The ASUS T100 has a brightness of 204 lux, while the Surface 2 has a brightness of 364 lux and iPad Air even reaches 411 lux.
Although a bit dark, Venue 11 Pro's IPS screen still gives brilliant colors. In the trailer of Someone Marry Barry's movie, red almost floats off the screen, especially the color of the flower in the funeral scene. The yellow light of the bike is very eye-catching, and Venue 11 Pro editors can even see each of Barry's main beard strands.
The Venue 11 Pro's viewing angle is also very wide, allowing users to see from both sides of the screen without worrying about faded colors.
Venue 11 Pro has a volume of up to 81 dB (decibel), surpassing both Surface 2 (71 dB) and iPad Air (67 dB). However, the sound quality of the Venue 11 Pro is not good at all: it sounds quite thin and lifeless.
In Beyonce's Drunk in Love, the bass part is almost completely lost, the female singer's voice is also distorted and pale. Sounds like hand-tapping or drumming are a bit better.
Keyboard and touchpad
You can combine Venue 11 Pro with a removable keyboard dock to use this hybrid laptop tablet for work. The Venue 11 Pro keyboard has a Chiclet design, there is no Num Pad (10-digit range) and a touchpad of 8.9 x 4.4 cm. Removable keyboards cost up to 139 USD (about 2.9 million, original prices in the US). Corresponding to the price is the pretty design of the keyboard dock: the upper part has decorative chrome strips that complement the elegance of the camera body, while the bottom is also covered with soft material like the back.
The minus point about the design of the removable keyboard is that you will have to use quite a strong force to separate or attach this accessory to the device. Not only that, decorative chrome strips will create a very unpleasant feeling when touching your hands.
While the keys have a fairly reasonable layout, the force feedback of the removable keyboard is not good. In test of LaptopMag, editors only reach speeds of 50 words per minute, lower than the 55-minute average of other keyboards. In short, the Venue 11 Pro keyboard experience is not good enough for long-term use.
The touchpad on the keyboard has better mouse click feedback. Users can also use the usual touch gestures of Windows 8 on the touchpad, but the strange thing is that this touchpad only supports the multi-touch gesture, which is drag-to-zoom. Multi-point gestures such as 2-finger sliding or rotating are not supported by the Venue 11 Pro's touchpad.
The slim keyboard version for Venue 11 Pro costs only 129 USD (about 2.7 million VND). Like the Surface 2's Touch Cover 2 keyboard, the Venue 11 Pro's slim keyboard has more flat and slightly fabric-like keys than a regular hard keyboard.
In addition, Dell also sells a stylus for Venue 11 Pro for $ 30 (about 630,000 VND).
Dock to the table
Not only the keyboard dock, but Venue 11 Pro also has a desktop dock to increase the number of ports. The Venue 11 Pro's desktop dock costs $ 139 (2.9 million) and designs soft textured material like the camera body. However, the rack is made of solid aluminum material to help the machine stand when on the table.
The number of ports connected by the desktop dock is very much: the front is 1 USB port and the headphone / microphone port combined. Behind the dock are 2 USB 3.0 ports, LAN port, large HDMI port and DisplayPort port.
The Venue 11 Pro's desktop dock is easy to disassemble due to the use of a single connection port. You can use the mouse and can also mount two separate screens to the Venue 11 Pro via HDMI and DisplayPort, turning this tablet into a small but equally powerful desktop.
With the Atom Z3770 quad-core 2.4 GHz processor and 2 GB of RAM, Venue 11 Pro can run common office tasks in a smooth way. You can just watch videos on Netflix, open 6 tabs on Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox and at the same time scan the system without any problems.
The Venue 11 Pro score on Geekbench 3 is 2,692, which is 1.5 times the 1.805 average of the tablet market. With the Atom Z3740 quad-core processor of 1.3 GHz, the ASUS Transformer Book T100 reached 2,611, while the iPad Air reached 2,694.
Using a 64GB SSD, Venue 11 Pro took 20 seconds to boot Windows 8, significantly slower than the 16-second average. Surface 2 takes 17 seconds to start Windows RT, equal to ASUS T100.
In the file copy test, the Venue 11 Pro only achieved a speed of 40.7 MB / sec, slower than the average of 68 MB / sec. The speed of Venue 11 Pro is on par with the Surface 2 (using an eMMC hard drive): 40.4 MB / sec and higher than the 25 MB / sec of the Transformer T100.
In the OpenOffice Spreadsheet Macro test, Venue 11 Pro took 15 minutes and 46 seconds to pair 20,000 names into addresses. The average of the tablet hybrid laptop segment is 16 minutes 22 seconds, while the T100 Transformers takes 20 minutes 48 seconds to complete this test.
The Venue 11 Pro's front camera gives a fairly sharp picture quality but is a bit dark. Whether you are video chat in a bright room or in natural light, most videos and "selfie" photos are darker than the environment. Luckily, this 2MP camera is sharp enough to capture every strand of hair and every strand of wool on it.
The back 8MP camera gives much better image quality: colors are brilliant at 3264 x 1836 pixel resolution. You can admire the quality of Venue 11 Pro camera in the bouquet photos below.
Due to being a tablet aimed at business users, Venue 11 Pro has a very good battery life: 7 hours 38 minutes of web surfing via Wi-Fi in the test of Laptop Mag. When attaching a keyboard, the battery life is up to 15 hours 40 minutes.
Surface 2 only reached 9 hours 19 minutes, while iPad Air reached 10 hours 47 minutes via 4G LTE and 11 hours 51 minutes via Wi-Fi. Although there is no extended battery on the keyboard, the Transformer Book T100 is up to 12 hours and 29 minutes in length.
Like most computer products aimed at business users, Venue 11 Pro does not have junk software installed. In addition to the pre-installed Modern applications on Windows 8 (Mail, Calendar, News, Skype and SkyDrive), Dell also provides Dell Backup and Recovery software (data backup, recovery), Digital Delivery (download and software installation), Power Manager (power management with many options).
The version reviewed in the article is a starting version of $ 499 (about 10.5 million) of Venue 11 Pro with Atom Z3770 quad-core 2.4 GHz processor, 2 GB RAM and 64 GB solid-state hard drive.
Mid-range version has Core i3-4020Y processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 4 GB RAM and 128 GB hard drive. The price of this version is 799 USD (about 16.8 million VND).
The most advanced version costs 849 USD (about 17.8 million VND) of Venue 11 Pro with Core i5-4210Y processor clocked at 1.5 GHz and other components like the 799 USD version.
The above price is the original price of the product in the US market. You can also purchase keyboard dock, desktop dock and touch pen for Venue 11 Pro (see the corresponding review section).
Venue 11 Pro is a perfect combination of ultraportable tablet and laptop. With a low starting price, Venue 11 Pro offers a full Windows 8.1 experience, up to 8 hours of battery life and decent performance – all packed in a great design. Plus point of Venue 11 Pro is the number of connection dock options quite a lot, but if you buy both keyboard dock and desktop dock, you will have to spend up to 777 USD (about 16.4 million VND), equivalent to the price of some mid-sized business laptops like the Latitude E6430.
If you need a soft product, you can choose the ASUS Transformer Book T100 with a 10-inch screen and an accompanying keyboard (original price of 399 USD – about 8.4 million). The T100 also has a brighter screen and a better battery life, but if you're a business user who needs a laptop hybrid tablet to work seamlessly between mobility and workability, Venue 11 Pro is a Good choice for you.
