OnLeaks, the famous leaker, has just unveiled a preview of the Google Pixel 5a. If this design sounds familiar to you, it’s because it’s identical to the Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G that Google introduced a few months ago.
From what we know, the Pixel 5a would likely be a somewhat larger Pixel 5, and would take advantage of some of the Pixel 4a 5G’s specs, such as the 3.5mm jack.
OnLeaks did not reveal all the technical characteristics of the Pixel 5a, but we now know that the smartphone will be equipped with a 6.2 inch OLED display, compared to 6 inches for the Pixel 5 that we tested last year. At the front, we will also find the same 8 MP front camera housed in a punch in the upper left corner of the screen.
The smartphone would be made of plastic, just like the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 4a 5G. For the Pixel 5, Google officially announced that it was made of metal, but JerryRigEverything had shown that its body was indeed plastic. The new Pixel 5a will therefore be no different from its predecessors in terms of materials. We hope that Google will take advantage of this new smartphone to correct the defect between the screen and the frame that some Pixel 5 suffer from.
Pixel 5a: what’s new?
One of the main differences with the Google Pixel 5 is probably the 3.5mm jack, which was missing from the Google flagship. There are also stereo speakers and a fingerprint reader on the back. Dimensions (156.2 x 73.2 x 8.8 mm) are almost identical to the Pixel 4a 5G, although it is 2.3mm taller, 0.8mm narrower and 0.6mm thicker.
Regarding the photo, we find the same configuration on the back of the device as on the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5. The Google Pixel 5a is expected to be equipped with a 12 MP Sony IMX363 main sensor, which will be supported by a 16 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor.
For now, it’s hard to say how it’s going to differ from the Pixel 4a 5G, since we don’t know anything about internals or pricing yet. We can however imagine that the smartphone will be a little more powerful than its predecessor, and surely a little more expensive.
