Mariano Diaz was excluded from the plan to prepare for the return leg of the Champions League round of 1/8 against Man City on 7/8.
“After the Covid-19 test of the team yesterday, Mariano Diaz gave a positive result,” the announcement of Real Madrid on July 28 had a paragraph. “At the moment this player is healthy and strict adherence to home isolation.”
By Instagram, Mariano posted a video reassuring fans. “I appreciate the messages and encouragement from you. I’m completely fine. Thank God. I’m recovering at home now and hope to return to normal to work with my teammates soon,” he said.
Real are preparing for the return leg of the 1/8 Champions League round, at Man City. Under British regulations, immigrants from Spain must test for nCoV, but Real is exempt. They will not be isolated within 14 days of arriving in England. In return, the entire coaching staff and Real players will have to test and submit the results to UEFA.
According to the Goal, Mariano was rejected by coach Zinedine Zidane from planning to prepare for the trip to Man City. The 26-year-old striker is said to sever all contact with his teammates, club staff and the coaching staff.
UEFA has not made any statement about the case of Real or Mariano. Earlier, the organization stated that the remaining matches within the Champions League and Europa League would be reviewed regularly, to ensure safety. After Real meet Man City on 7/8, the winning team will go to Portugal to play in the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals, in the form of a knockout match.
Real sold Mariano to Lyon in the summer of 2017 but then activated the buy-back clause. This season, the Spanish striker has just played seven times and scored a goal.
