Information from Digitimes said Qualcomm chose Samsung as a Snapdragon 865 chip production unit instead of TSMC as Snapdragon 8xx series before. Samsung was chosen probably because of the new 7nm chip production line that is able to meet the large output along with UV etching technology that is more modern than TSMC. Samsung used to make Snapdragon 820 and 835 for Qualcomm but up to 845 and 855, it transferred the contract to TSMC. There are rumors that the Snapdragon 865 has two versions, a regular version and an integrated 5G Qualcomm X55 modem.
Recently, NVIDIA has turned to Samsung for GPU processing, parting ways with TSMC after years of cooperation. The Ampere architecture will be the first to use the 7nm process, while the current Turing architecture of the 20xx and 16xx cards is using TSMC's 12nm line. IBM could also hire Samsung to make a POWER chip with 7nm technology in the near future, and of course Exynos processors will also be manufactured on this line.
Recently, Samsung and AMD have joined hands to develop high-performance GPUs for mobile.
