Protein is a molecule formed by a set of amino acids. Among them, there are some, called essential amino acids, which are not manufactured by the body and can only be obtained through food. - Protein diet
The main sources of proteins are animal products, such as meat, fish, eggs, milk and dairy products. In addition to being present in high concentration in these foods, proteins of animal origin are more easily absorbed by the body, which makes the consumption of these products the best way to obtain the essential amino acids.
Some vegetables are sources of protein and should be consumed by vegetarian and, mainly, vegan people. Among them are the legumes (beans, peas, lentils), Soy and derivatives such as tofu (soy cheese), quinoa and, to a lesser extent, rice.
Some fruits also have a good concentration of proteins and can be a consumption option for those who want to reduce their meat intake. In the list are apricots dried, raisin, prune, guava, avocado and jackfruit. In addition to proteins, fruit consumption is important due to the good amount of fiber in its composition.
Protein is very important for human consumption. However, some people choose to follow the protein diet, which prescribes a high daily consumption – about 1.5 grams of protein per kilogram of weight – of this component. This diet is highly recommended for people who intend to gain muscular mass and practice intense physical activity. For other groups, the protein diet can cause weight gain.
