Newspaper Rodong Sinmun, The official mouthpiece of the Korean Workers’ Party reported on April 26 that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un sent a letter to construction workers in Samjiyon City.
In the letter, Mr. Kim Jong-un sent his thanks and encouragement to the workers who are on the task of building and developing Samjiyon City – one of the most ambitious projects of North Korea.
Accordingly, Pyongyang officials want to turn Samjiyon into a model modern city, with advanced rail, energy and telecommunication systems.
Samjiyon City is also located at the foot of Mount Paektu, which is considered the “sacred mountain” of North Korea and the leader Kim Jong-un often visit, before making important decisions for the country.

In previous years, this holiday was often marked by events such as satellite launches or large parades.
However, in 2020, many anniversary activities were cut off and Mr. Kim Jong-un did not appear publicly on this day.
