The Mercedes-Benz GLB is the smallest practical 7-seater SUV of German cars ever. More specifically, the GLB 200 version with only 1.33 liter engine promises to help the car with a very good price when assembled in Vietnam because the low cylinder capacity will lead to a reduction of special consumption tax.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class starts at US $ 38,000 for the lowest GLB 200 version. However, the price of GLB if assembled in Vietnam will certainly not be less than 1.7 billion dong equivalent to the current GLC 200. Despite being on par with the GLC 200, this is still a pretty good car because it gives the ability to carry 7 people, instead of only 5 seats like the current GLC.
GLB will also balance the advantage of carrying capacity compared to the Volkswagen Tiguan which is very successful in Vietnam and slightly better than rivals such as Audi Q3, BMW X3 or Volvo XC60.
Being more spacious than the GLA, the GLB has a length of 4,634 mm, a width of 1,834 mm, a height of 1,662 mm, a wheelbase of 2,829 mm, 100 mm longer than the new B-Class. Compared to the current GLC-Class, the GLB has 7 seats but is mounted more than 22mm, narrower 56mm but higher than 18mm, the base shaft is also shorter than 44mm.
The design of the GLB is quite similar to the concept car version, the common point is that there are many rounded strokes and the roof of the rear car is less clipped lower, creating a ceiling space for the third row.
The front end of the car depends on the version and has a quite diverse design, from the grille with many diamonds to the horizontal or vertical bars, with or without fog lights.
The headlight cluster is made larger and has up to two LED daytime running lights above and below and comes with the option to equip Multibeam. This generation of headlights has an additional feature to support off-road when it is possible to expand the lighting area when the driver manipulates the steering but still keeps the light in the direction of the car straight ahead.
The body of the car is prominent with floating veins and wheel cavity made of black plastic, the window frames are also equipped with beautiful chrome plating. It is worth noting that the off-road version has a roof rack that helps to bring more eye-catching images and is more convenient when more space is needed.
The rear of the car features a new design tail light, expanded on the sides with two LED strips to identify the rear. The lower bumper is chrome plated with exhaust pipes on the sides.
Inside, the GLB cabin has an angular, more sporty design with aluminum-plastic décor, MBUX infotainment system. The AMG GLB 35 adds a black leather-wrapped sports seat with red stitching, a central screen for the MBUX infotainment system, a multifunction steering wheel, a flat bottom nappa leather.
The high-end GLB versions will use the central clock cluster as an LCD screen connected to the entertainment screen to form a seamless detail cluster.
The interior space of the GLB carries a new design with many details inspired by the G-Class. Specifically, the air outlet vents like the way the fan and the knob are rectangular instead of round.
The touchpad cluster controls the center screen is also more square and uses rough material instead of the ball like Mercedes-Benz models before.
With a two-row seat design, optimizing passenger space is also more convenient. In case of necessity, the GLB can carry a total of up to 7 people and when carrying fewer people, the 3rd row can be folded. If this is only a 5-seater vehicle, when carrying more people is completely illegal.
However, when opening all the rows of seats, the remaining space of BLG will not be too much, can only store about 2 large suitcases or 4 small suitcases and backpacks. It is easy to understand that when traveling long distances with 7 passengers will not have enough space to accommodate the entire luggage.
Engine – Safety
Mercedes-Benz announced up to 6 GLB versions (3 petrol and 3 diesel), most notably the GLB200 with 1.33 liter engine that promises to help reduce the special consumption tax calculated by the cylinder capacity in Vietnam. like nowadays.
The Mercedes-Benz GLB 200 version comes with a 1.33-liter turbocharged M282 four-cylinder engine from Renault for maximum power of 163 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 250 Nm of torque from 1,600 to 4,200 rpm / minute. Combined with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, the GLB 200 is capable of traveling from 0 to 100 km / h in 9.1 seconds, the maximum speed reaches 207 km / h, the fuel consumption is 6.0 – 6.2 liters / 100 km.
The GLB 250 uses a 2.0-liter M260 engine that produces a maximum of 224 hp at 5,800 rpm and 350 Nm of torque from 1,800 – 4,000 rpm. Coupled with 8-speed 8G-DCT gearbox, the GLB 250 accelerates from 0 – 100 km / h in 6.9 seconds, top speed reaches 236 km / h, mcu71 fuel consumption at 7.2-7, 4 liters / 100 km.
The most advanced version of the Mercedes-Benz GLB up to now, the AMG GLB 35 4Matic is strong with 302 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque supplied from the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine block. Power is transmitted to the wheels via the AMG Performance Performance all-wheel drive system and an 8-speed dual clutch transmission.
AMG GLB 35 is capable of accelerating from 0 – 100 km / h in 5.2 seconds before reaching the maximum speed electronically limited 250 km / h, average fuel consumption of 7.5 liters / 100 km . This new SUV offers 5 driving modes including Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport + and Personal. The chassis and suspension of the car is also tweaked by the AMG manufacturer. In addition, there is a new design steering wheel to improve handling as well as increase aesthetics.
Although it is unclear when Mercedes-Benz GLB will return to Vietnam, it will take at least a year to prepare the assembly lines because the importation of complete units will make GLB lose its price competitiveness. Bringing beautiful design, high brand value and practicality, GLB is expected to be as successful as GLC being assembled in Vietnam today.
