over 19 million players have had the game for free on the Epic Games Store


Star Wars Battlefront 2 gained popularity after being available for free on the Epic Games Store for a week. Electronic Arts has just announced on Twitter that more than 19 million players have picked up the game on the platform.

Released in 2017, Star Wars Battlefront 2 made up for the mistakes and disappointment of the first game launched two years earlier. The franchise is renowned for its multiplayer mode where up to 40 players compete. Nonetheless, many fans were disappointed with the lack of a campaign in the first installment. This is the reason why a single player campaign has been added to Star Wars Battlefront 2, even though it is very short.

Fans of the world of George Lucas, but also new ones, have been numerous to take advantage of the offer of the Epic Games Store. Star Wars Battlefront 2 was available for free on the Epic Games Store from January 14 to 21, 2021. This offer was launched less than a month after the Christmas one. Indeed, the platform which directly competes with Steam offered 15 games to celebrate the end of the year holidays last month.

Publisher Electronic Arts said on Twitter that: “ Over 19 million players have obtained Star Wars Battlefront 2 through the promotion of the Epic Games Store. Thank you very much for the continued support, even after the last content update. We will follow your careers with great interest! May the Force be with you, soldiers! “. This doesn’t mean that 19 million users have played Star Wars Battlefront 2, but that 19 million players have retrieved the game from their digital library.

In addition, Electronic Arts has also asked more experienced gamers to be patient with newcomers who discover the FPS in the Star Wars universe for the first time. Moreover, Disney explained the 3 new Star Wars timelines that will be developed, namely the High Republic, the Dark Age and the era of the Mandalorian.

Finally, Electronic Arts has also confirmed that it no longer has an exclusive license to develop Star Wars games. The publisher has not officially confirmed Battlefront 3. He nevertheless specified that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released in 2019 was the start of a new franchise.
