The association for the defense of consumer rights, represented by Mes Maxime Nasr and Violet Leblanc de Belleau Lapointe, entered into an agreement with the financial institution, defended by Mes Vincent of the Star and Sandra Desjardins of the Langlois cabinet.

Nearly ten million dollars have been released by Desjardins to reimburse the plaintiffs, reveals an article in The Canadian Press.

To be eligible, you must have taken out a loan guaranteed by the Quebec government with a Caisse Desjardins. The financial institution must also have sent a repayment agreement that took effect after August 2, 2014 and whose terms were not changed before the first payment. In addition, no claim must have been made under this insurance.

Most people won’t have to do anything to get their money back. Eligible Desjardins members will simply receive the compensation in their account and those who have changed banking institution will receive a check in the mail.

The agreement between Desjardins and Option consommateurs must be approved by the court on May 13.
