At the 2019 Shanghai MWC event taking place in China, OPPO has officially introduced the selfie camera technology hidden under the world's first screen.
It is known that with this new technology, the future smartphones will have impressive overflow screen on the front without using notch design, punching or any movement mechanism.
According to GSM Arena, to make the technology work, OPPO has introduced both screen and custom camera modules. Accordingly, the screen portion above the lens is made of high transparency material with a redesigned pixel structure to ensure optimal light transmission. The camera used is also very special – it will have a large aperture, a large sensor and a larger pixel size to resist any light refraction.
A camera usually takes photos when light hits the sensor via optics but when there are many obstacles above, the image quality will decrease. OPPO said there are three algorithms to improve camera quality without affecting the display.
The first of the algorithms is White Balance – OPPO has made adjustments to targets and corrects colors according to any light source that can interfere with the image. Then, use HDR algorithm to reduce excessive highlights and increase brightness in dark areas. Finally, the Haze Removal algorithm will work to increase the sharpness of the image.
OPPO said it is working to keep a smartphone with a selfie camera hidden behind the screen in the future but does not reveal its name, specifications, price and launch date. All that the company said in a press release was "a smartphone with new technology expected to come out in the near future".
