An Ottawa police officer has just been charged with assault in two recent incidents of domestic violence.
According to the Ottawa Police Service (OPS), the events took place last December and early February of this year, when the officer was off duty.
Suspended since then, he also faces charges of mischief and careless storage of a firearm.
The Professional Standards Section of the OPS has launched an investigation under the Police Services Act.
“When an officer is charged, the Ottawa police inform the public to ensure confidence in the process, as well as its transparency,” the OPS said in a statement Friday.
