During the time when all the headlines were focused on how AMD was causing a massive storm with Zen 2 and RX 5700, Nvidia silently posted a mysterious video teaser with the only words, "super".
From a leak on the WCCFTech site, it seems that in the near future, Nvidia will release five new "Super" video cards across the RTX lineup.
That means that RTX 2060, RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and even RTX 2080Ti will be upgraded with a more powerful version. These "Super" versions will not simply be a RAM overclock like the previous rumor will take a new step.
For example, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Super appears as a completely new GPU that is not a refactored Quadro version for other uses. According to rumors, the video card will also be fully unlocked, so Nvidia's AIB brands can customize and enhance performance through providing more power.
For non-flagship GPUs of the RTX 2000 such as RTX 2060 or 2070, all will have a "Super" variant that will cost comparable to the current popular variants, while existing models will depreciate. For example, Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super will be the unlocked version of the RTX 2080 GPU but cannot overclock.
Some "Super" video cards may come out in the near future:
- Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti Super – New GPU
- Nvidia RTX 2080 Super – RTX 2080 Ti GPU
- Nvidia RTX 2070 Ti – New GPU
- Nvidia RTX 2070 Super – RTX 2080 GPU
- Nvidia RTX 2060 Super – RTX 2070 GPU
The video card battle is about to begin
Just like what AMD's Polaris GPUs previously did with the GTX 1000 series, came out with products and focused on the performance gaps between the card lines (GTX 1050Ti <x <GTX 1060 <x <GTX 1070). With good price / performance products, the RX 5700 series is coming out in July to directly attack RTX 2060 and RTX 2070 at a more affordable price.
However, if the rumors are true, it seems that Nvidia is well prepared and this is not good news for AMD. If the new Nvidia RTX Super comes with the RTX 2080 processor chip, it will bring down the direct cost of the RTX 2070 to compete with the RX 5700 XT, "Red team" will no longer have the same performance / cost advantage.
This is even more true with the RX 5700 expected to launch at $ 380, inherently more expensive RTX 2060, entered RTX.
Only time will tell if these rumors are really true, but if so, that means Nvidia is ready to hold weapons in the AMD vs Nvidia battle again and we can't wait to See how that happens. Finally, the final winner will be us, the consumers.
