Interrupting nicotine receptors
Researchers from Inserm, CNRS, Institut Pasteur, University of News York and University of California Berkeley have arrived at control the activity of nicotine receptors in the brain. True, the study was conducted on mice.
Posted in eLife, they explain that they managed to hang a chemical nano-switch reacting to light. When the light is purple, the nicotinic receptor type b2 does not respond: the attraction of nicotine is greatly reduced. This is not the case with green light.
“This study shows that it is possible toinhibit the attraction to nicotine, which could make it possible to develop new therapeutic targets for fight against this addiction », Specifies Alexandre Mourot, Inserm researcher in charge of the study.
