[AFP = Current affairs]We investigated the efficacy of antimalarial drugs “hydroxychloroquine” and “chloroquine” against new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) in nearly 100,000 patients, and found no therapeutic effect. Or, a paper that found that the mortality rate during hospitalization was found was published on the 22nd in the British medical journal The Lancet.

Hydroxychloroquine is commonly used to treat rheumatoid arthritis, but governments buy it in large quantities because politicians, including US President Donald Trump, have mentioned it as a COVID-19 remedy. It became so. Trump has revealed this week that he is taking hydroxychloroquine.

Both hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine can cause serious side effects such as arrhythmias, but the paper analyzed COPIC-19 inpatients as a result of analyzing data from 96,000 patients collected from hundreds of hospitals. It was concluded that there was no therapeutic effect against and that treatment rather increased mortality.

The research team conducted treatment results in a total of 4 groups of patients who received only hydroxychloroquine, patients who received only chloroquine, and patients who received both drugs and antibiotics, and a control group that did not receive these drugs. Were compared.

Mortality within the control period was approximately 9% in the control group, while it was 18% and 16.4% in patients receiving hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine as single agents, respectively. Mortality was further increased with antibiotics, 22.8% for chloroquine and 23.8% for hydroxychloroquine.
