The new law has a provision requiring absentee voting voters to provide ID (citizenship identification), replacing the signature confirmations that were used in the 2020 election. The law also prohibits the state from sending mail. the absentee ballot application forms for voters when they have no prior request.
In addition, the new law also includes the following:
• Restrict mail boxes placed in early voting locations, and those boxes that do not receive early ballots during the last 4 days of an election;
• Extend voting the weekend before general elections with polling hours required on two Saturdays across the state, and selected counties hold two-Sunday early voting;
• Give the state Election Commission control of election committees of certain counties that the State Election Commission deems intervention is necessary;
• Reduce the time gap between general elections and second-round elections from 9 weeks to 4 weeks.
