At least 17 people, including nine police officers, were injured after a huge stockpile of illegal fireworks suddenly exploded south of Los Angeles.
According to Russia Today news agency, the explosion happened on the evening of June 30, after a raid by Los Angeles police to seize tons of illegally trafficked fireworks.
Police confiscated about 2.2 tons of fireworks and improvised explosive devices, and arrested a suspect. The suspect is a 24-year-old male.

Several videos from local media and witnesses showed illegally seized fireworks exploding inside an armored container truck, damaging both the container and the truck. Several neighboring cars and houses also suffered significant damage.
In the Los Angeles Times, police chief Michel Moore said the city’s demining team moved improvised explosive devices into an armored container, and detonated them because they thought the container was sturdy enough to control the explosion. However, the car overturned and damaged the windows of some surrounding buildings.
