Modern design, speedy performance

Redmi Note is one of the flagship phone series from Xiaomi. The series plays a big part in helping Xiaomi become one of the leading phone manufacturers in several markets around the world. The Redmi Note 4 series has sold over 10 million units since its release, and last year’s Redmi Note 7 Pro became the top-selling product in the mid-range segment.

In this segment, Xiaomi faces fierce competition from other manufacturers, and one of them is Realme. This makes Xiaomi not only have to launch a device with good performance for the money, but also have to possess superior features compared to other competitors. Is Redmi Note 9 Pro a device that meets those requirements? Today’s article will answer that question.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Design

In recent years, Xiaomi has used a design language called Aura Balance on its phone models. Redmi Note 9 Pro is one of the phones that inherits that design, which is a direct upgrade of the Note 8 Pro.

Instead of being finished with a colorful gradient effect, the back of the Note 9 Pro is now a glossy Gorilla Glass 5. The model we review has a color version of Aurora Blue, which can be used as a mirror if you look at it from the right angle. Of course, this also means that the back of the device will stick to a lot of fingerprints and stains during use.

Similar to Note 8 Pro, the rear camera cluster of the 9th version is placed in the middle position. However, instead of being lined up vertically, all four sensors are placed inside a thick square, with the flash located directly below.

The difference that this version of the device brings is the switch to using the fingerprint sensor on the side. This sensor is integrated inside the power button, has a fast and accurate fingerprint reading speed. The power button of the machine is placed in a convenient and easy-to-reach position.

You’ll find a USB Type-C connector and a headphone jack on the bottom edge. Along the left edge, the device is equipped with a SIM slot. This slot can hold up to 2 nano SIM cards and 1 microSD card. And finally, on the top edge is equipped with a single infrared eye dot.

Redmi Note 9 Pro

The design on the front does not have much innovation compared to the previous version. Note 9 Pro is equipped with a screen with a diagonal length of 6.67 inches, divided side by side with a higher ratio of 20: 9. Located in the middle near the top edge is a small hole to make room for the selfie camera. The screen’s resolution is kept at Full HD +, providing vivid color quality with default settings.

However, when compared to competitors like Poco X2 or Realme 6 Pro, the Note 9 Pro’s screen does not support high refresh rates. This will make it difficult for Note 9 Pro to compete directly with these models on the market.

Overall, the Note 9 Pro is a pretty basic mid-range phone, with major design innovations. However, with an overall weight of 209g, Note 9 Pro can make users’ hands sore during long-term use. And like most other phones in the mid-range segment, the Note 9 Pro doesn’t have an official water resistance standard.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Performance

With Redmi Note 9 Pro, the manufacturer has decided to return to using the processor line produced by Qualcomm. While Note 8 Pro uses Mediatek Helio G90T chip series, the 9th version of the series uses Snapdragon 720G. The chip is made up of 2 Kryo 465 Gold cores and 6 Kryo 465 Silver cores. In terms of graphics processing, the chip is integrated with Adreno 618 GPU.

Similar to most phones in the mid-range price segment at the moment, Redmi Note 9 Pro gives users a smooth and stable daily use experience. The device’s MIUI operating system has been developed very well by the manufacturer, bringing many useful features and without errors.

Depending on the configuration version you choose, the amount of RAM of the device may be the main factor affecting the actual usage experience. Those who intend to play games should skip the version with 4GB RAM.

Even though it’s just a mid-range chip, Snapdragon 720G still delivers enough performance to perform well the tasks or games you play on the device.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Battery life

Xiaomi is one of the pioneer manufacturers in launching models with large battery capacity, and the Note 9 Pro version is also on that list. For this version of the device, the manufacturer has decided to choose a battery with a capacity of 5020 mAh.

In our battery life test, the Note 9 Pro lasted 11 hours and 12 minutes after continuously surfing the web over wifi, with the screen brightness set at 150 nits.

Unfortunately, the device has a not very fast charging speed, with the capacity limited to 18W. The device fully charges the battery from 0% after about 140 minutes of plugging in the cord.

Redmi Note 9 Pro: Camera

Note 9 Pro is equipped with the same rear camera combination as in its predecessor. The device’s 4-lens camera cluster is made up of an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, a 2MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro sensor. The difference lies in the configuration of the main camera sensor. This time, the main camera of the device uses a 48MP Samsung GM2 sensor.

The photo quality of the Redmi Note 9 Pro is at a moderate level compared to the price segment. The colors on these pictures are shown naturally. In most cases, color temperature and white balance are accurately represented. The dynamic range of the images is also shown quite well.

However, despite the application of pixel binning technology to 12MP, the images from the main camera are still quite grainy and have diffraction phenomenon, regardless of lighting conditions.

If you like taking wide-angle photos or shooting in font removal mode, then Redmi Note 9 Pro can partly meet those needs.

Sold in the mid-range price segment, Redmi Note 9 Pro is a model that gives users a high level of use value for money. With a powerful processor chip, the machine can quickly perform all different processing tasks, thereby giving users a smooth user experience. In addition, the device also has a long battery life, helping you comfortably use the phone for a long time. Redmi Note 9 Pro is a good choice if you are looking for a good model in the mid-range price segment.
