Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro: Design
In recent times, the market has continuously appeared mid-range laptops with metal exterior designs, such as the Realme Book Slim, plus the two NoteBook series that Xiaomi has just released. According to the manufacturer, Mi NoteBook Pro owns a monolithic outer shell design, made from standard aluminum to make aircraft cases.
Mi NoteBook Pro is a machine with good build quality, with every detail being put together firmly and seamlessly. The aluminum outer shell design not only offers the advantage of durability, but also helps the laptop become much lighter, with an overall weight of only 1.4 kg.
The hinge system of the machine is completed firmly and has moderate resistance, allowing users to easily open the laptop with just one finger. The keyboard area is also finished very firmly and has a spacious area, allowing users to comfortably rest their hands above them during work.
In terms of security, users can easily log in to the system account with a biometric code with the power button cum fingerprint security on the body. The NoteBook Pro’s fingerprint sensor is fast, accurate, and reliable.
Although it does not have many connection ports, Mi NoteBook Pro is still equipped with the most essential ports during daily use. Along the left edge, the machine is equipped with a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, an HDMI 1.4 output port, a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port and a Thunderbolt 4 port. Switching to the right edge, you can find it. 1 USB 2.0 Type-A port and 1 headphone/microphone jack. All of the device’s USB Type-C ports are supported for charging, so the laptop will not have a dedicated power port.
Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro: Keyboard and touchpad
Xiaomi equips NoteBook Pro with a good quality keyboard with universal button size. The keyboard set gives users a quiet input experience, but the travel of the buttons is a bit shallow (1.3mm), making the feedback force when pressed is not very firm. The keyboard set is illuminated by a system of lights with 2 different levels, allowing you to work easily even in dimly-lit places.
Located just below the keyboard is a 2-way touchpad of 12.5 x 8.3 cm. This is a touchpad with a large surface area, allowing users to easily control the mouse pointer to interact with different applications on the Windows 10 operating system.
Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro: Screen
The Mi NoteBook Pro version that we use in the review is equipped with a 14-inch screen, with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels, divided by the 16:10 ratio. This monitor supports a common refresh rate of 60Hz and has a theoretical brightness of 300 nits.
In our test, the machine’s screen is capable of covering 96% of the sRGB color gamut, which is equivalent to the average threshold of the segment. With a Delta E color deviation index of 4.82, the screen is capable of displaying colors with not too high accuracy.
Overall, the screen offers a decent experience for most types of entertainment and even basic photo and video editing tasks.
Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro: Performance
Our review machine version is equipped with an Intel Core i7-11370H chip. In addition to this version, users can choose to configure the Core i5-11300H chip with a cheaper price. Both configuration versions are not equipped with dedicated graphics cards.
The Core i7-11370H chip has a PL1 index of 28W, PL2 of 64W when the device is plugged in. The chip operates at a base clock of 3GHz, which can be overclocked to a maximum of 4.8GHz. The chip’s PL1 index is reduced to 25W when the machine runs on battery power. Mi NoteBook Pro has very good sustained performance results in the continuous looping test with Cinebench R15. During actual use, we did not experience any lag when performing daily tasks, including word processing, image editing and web surfing.
Using PCMark 10 to score overall performance, Mi NoteBook Pro achieved an average score of 5199. This result is on par with the average of the mid-range laptop segment at the moment. For comparison, the machine has a higher performance score than Acer Swift 3 (4886 points), Realme Book Slim (4390 points).
Mi NoteBook Pro is the first laptop we reviewed equipped with a YMTC PC005 Active NVMe SSD, which was first released in 2020. Using CrystalDisk to test the performance of the internal memory, Mi NoteBook Pro’s SSD has read and write speeds of 538.7 and 477.6 MBps, respectively.
Unlike the previously released RedmiBook Pro 15, Mi NoteBook Pro does not own a dedicated graphics card, so all graphics-related tasks will be performed through the Intel Iris Xe instant GPU chip. .
Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro: Heat dissipation
The metal outer shell design offers advantages in durability and volume, but makes the surface of the laptop have a higher temperature during work. Mi NoteBook Pro’s cooling system includes only 1 fan and 2 heat pipes.
During testing, we noticed that the area above the trasic corner of the machine had a rather high temperature increase, while the touchpad and bottom corner still kept the heat quite stable.
Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro: Battery life
The battery life of the Mi NoteBook Pro is not too impressive, but it will still be enough to allow users to last until the end of the working day. In our test, the device has a recorded battery life of 8 hours and 12 minutes after continuously surfing the web using a wifi network, with the screen brightness set at 150 nit.
With the launch of Mi NoteBook Pro, Xiaomi intends to continue the competitive momentum in the mid-range laptop market, which began with the Mi NoteBook 14 Horizon Edition series. To do that, the manufacturer has equipped Mi NoteBook Pro with the latest components of 2021.
The machine possesses a modern design with an all-aluminum outer shell, which not only provides impressive durability but also makes the machine much lighter. Equipped with common connectivity ports, Mi NoteBook Pro gives users a workspace full of different amenities. If you are looking for a quality laptop in the mid-range segment, then the Xiaomi Mi NoteBook Pro will be an option worth checking out.
