MiniTool MovieMaker 2.0 review

As its name suggests, MiniTool MovieMaker 2.0 is about manufacturing movies, not necessarily editing them (if that’s what you need, check out our guide to the best free video editors). It is designed for beginners or those looking for quick and easy results. It allows you to quickly combine a mixture of video clips, photos and audio before saving the result as a video file.

You can choose to work with a template if you want to create a cookie-cutter video incorporating videos of a special event. They’re a bit cheesy, but that’s almost the point! Using templates, you can create video invitations, memory videos, photo albums, and slide shows.

Of course, there is also the possibility of getting a little more familiar, of working with components in a slightly more advanced way – editing videos, adding effects and transitions, etc. Completed projects can be saved in a variety of video formats or, if you prefer, perfectly tailored to suit certain devices, such as iPhones.

Note that you would be advised to select the custom installation option when installing MovieMaker, otherwise you will be automatically activated in MiniTool Customer Experience and an unknown level of data collection.

User experience

When you upload media files to MovieMaker for a project, you will find that there is wide support for all of the most popular audio and video formats. Using templates is a good option because you are just customizing an existing project – projects that include effects not available elsewhere in the program – so you just need to choose the files you want to use, maybe change the background music , and you can finish minutes.

Switching to full mode gives you a little more freedom, but things are kept simple. There is a timeline for uploading your media files and text, and you can divide existing videos into many sections (although the interface doesn’t tell you how to do it), and use the toolbar buttons to choose to add transitions between scenes, and effects to clips. Unfortunately, none is particularly impressive, just passable.
