A 26-year-old man is charged with attempted murder of his former wife, in Lévis.
The Police Department of the City of Lévis (SPVL) was informed late Tuesday morning that an 18-year-old woman claiming to have been beaten had presented to the hospital. She had visible injuries to her face.
The alleged events took place at the victim’s home in the Charny sector. Police said the woman recounted several previous episodes of violence.
The investigation identified a suspect, Emmanuel Lapointe, his former spouse. Lapointe was first arrested for aggravated assault. The SPVL mentions that he resisted his arrest, to the point where he tried to hit a police officer.
The accused appeared at the Quebec City courthouse to face counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, forcible confinement and breach of recognizance.
Another man suspected of an after-the-fact complicity was arrested in this case and then released with a promise to appear.
