The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) reported having got their hands on the fugitive’s snare around 4:15 a.m.
“He could face a charge of break and enter as well as a charge of evading legal custody,” added Sergeant Claude Denis by email.
The SQ also specified that the detainee was “safe and sound” when apprehended.
Everett Alexson, 51, had escaped from the Waseskun Healing Center, a minimum-security community residential center in Saint-Alphonse-Rodriguez.
The 50-year-old has been detained since 2005. He was convicted of a murder committed on the Prairies.
Correctional Service Canada assured Sunday that an investigation will be conducted into the circumstances that made this escape possible.
“The safety of institutions, staff and the public remains the top priority for those responsible for the operations of the federal correctional system,” he insisted.
