According to Sun (England), Jurgen Klopp was disappointed when the home team could not recruit midfielder Kalidou Koulibaly.
Klopp promoted a request to buy Koulibaly in January. But Liverpool’s owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), did not agree to spend money on the Senegal player. Koulibaly was once valued at $ 138 million by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis. But Klopp thinks Liverpool can recruit this player for a cheaper fee if he knows how to negotiate.
Instead of Koulibaly’s service, Klopp only added two unknown players – midfielder Ben Davies from Preston and Ozan Kabak from Schalke on loan. According to the sheet Sun, Klopp pessimistic that he cannot improve the defense chipped by injury from Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez or Joel Matip. He believes that a big team like Liverpool needs to find a way to recruit Koulibaly.
The FSG said that Liverpool did not share the financial burden of the club during the difficult times. The Premier League champions are paying more than $ 318 million a year in the first team, and they have to pay it every week. When Covid-19 arrived last year, the club’s leadership was surprised when their decision to cut some non-football staff was opposed by the fans.
The FSG also believes it gave in to Klopp by spending $ 62 million on Diogo Jota and $ 37 million for Thiago Alcantara last September. Of these two recruits, Thiago is said to be incompatible with the pressing style of Liverpool.
Liverpool’s Technical Director Michael Edwards – who is known for his ability to negotiate a transfer genius – is in a dilemma. One side is Klopp, the other side is club leader. However, Liverpool fans believe that the relationship between the two sides will be less stressful as Klopp often has good relations with the leaders of the teams he has worked with in the past.
