iPhone Fold could be released in 2023

More and more sources indicate that Apple is working on a folding version of its smartphone. According to a specialist firm, the device could be marketed in 2023.

The development and release of new Apple brand products is extremely popular in the tech world. If the spirits are turned to the iPhone 13 and its share of novelties, other projects seem to be underway and arouse the interest of observers.

This is particularly the case of the folding iPhone. According to EqualOcean, specialist in information research, the Cupertino company could launch a device with a screen between 7 and 8 inches by 2023. An evolution therefore in the file since recently, another report mentioned the fact that ‘Apple was only working on the screen part at the moment.

Apple would therefore have the project to release a large format phone, bordering on the tablet which could also receive the Apple Pencil stylus. A choice that would seem relevant on a device of this size and which could come to play on the ground of a Galaxy Note for example.

Folding screens, a future standard?

Soft screen technology is nothing new. However, more and more manufacturers seem to be interested in their use for smartphones. The stake is simple, to offer increasingly large display surfaces, adaptable according to the situations while minimizing the bulk. It is for this purpose that Apple allegedly asked Foxconn to create two folding iPhone prototypes.

For now, manufacturers seem to be fumbling and still looking for the ideal design for their models. We can mention the flip format like the Galaxy Z flip whose goal is to clearly reduce the size of a traditional smartphone. There are also wallet folding versions that offer a large surface area when unfolded like the Galaxy Fold or the Mate X. In both cases, manufacturers must manage the hinge and the fold mark that may appear on the screen as well as possible.

In order to limit this drawback, some manufacturers have chosen other options. Microsoft with the Surface duo which circumvents the problem by simply using two separate screens or Oppo which offers a scrollable smartphone from 6.7 to 7.4 inches.

2023 is still a relatively distant horizon, and things can still change at Apple until then. However, if the giant begins to take an interest in this kind of technology, it would not be surprising to see folding smartphones become the norm in the more or less near future.
