Inventory of 110 game companies in Chengdu

The game teahouse has recently sorted out the cities where the main game manufacturers are distributed in the country, and will be released one after another.

For a long time, Chengdu’s game manufacturers have been playing the role of product suppliers, providing continuous supply of product line ammunition for major manufacturers. Therefore, Chengdu is almost a must-see for major manufacturers to expand their businesses. In this issue of Game Tea House, some of the game manufacturers in Chengdu are organized as follows:

Limited by personal energy, only 110 game manufacturers are included in this information, and there are bound to be a large number of remaining beads. Welcome everyone to add in the comment area.

In 2017, the game teahouse also did an inventory of Chengdu game manufacturers. After three years, the ecology of Chengdu’s game industry is quite different.

New forces are growing vigorously, and established local manufacturers fall behind

In the past year or two, Chengdu manufacturers have produced phenomenal games such as “The Awakening of Nations” and “I’m a Thief 6”, attracting a large number of foreign manufacturers. Some teams with mature products, especially team members with successful product experience, can easily get investment from major manufacturers.

Tencent, Gigabit, Station B, IGG, and Sanqi Mutual Entertainment continue to inject funds from major players, which has enabled many Chengdu start-up game companies to flourish.

And the outstanding ones among these emerging forces will be favored by many large companies and be invested in shares at the same time. For example, the shareholders behind Legou games include Lilith and tap4fun; the developer of “Craftsman” Dongji Liugan has “collected” the three star shareholders of Tencent, Station B and Gigabit at the same time; the developers of “Ember Front” have successively won B Station, Baotong Technology and Tencent’s investment…

In the past few years, the market dominance of MMO mobile games has been given to games with competitive attributes such as MOBA and chicken eating. In the sub-category market, the two-dimensional, female-oriented, and casual games have risen and are generally welcomed by players.

In Chengdu, a large number of two-dimensional and casual game developers have gathered. After these new forces have obtained investment or product profits, they have once again expanded and launched new and cooler projects, gradually entering a positive cycle.

However, some established local manufacturers did not follow the changes in the market, did not launch impressive new products, and gradually fell behind.

Yanlong Technology, which was acquired by Hanye shares for 1.6 billion yuan, continued to deteriorate in business conditions. According to an announcement by a listed company, a large number of employees of Yanlong Technology have resigned and filed labor arbitrations, resulting in the loss of business personnel, a sharp decline in business scale and lawsuits. As of Q3 last year, Yanlong Technology had a loss of 15 million yuan.

Mochikaka is basically in a state of “existing in name only.” The announcement of the listed company shows that Mochica will shut down its new game publishing and research and development business in 2020, and will no longer invest resources in the future, only maintaining the stock of games. And at the end of last year, Moqi Kaka was sold and divested by the parent company Fuchun shares for 42.5 million yuan. You know, Fuchun shares spent 1.05 billion yuan on the acquisition of Mochika.

There are also veteran manufacturers who have changed their way of life. For example, in a few days of transforming and developing 3A console-level games, the new work “Project DT” is quite good in terms of the actual experience of the game teahouse.

In addition to “Project DT”, there are several 3A projects in a few days

Talented people have come out from generation to generation, and they have led the way for hundreds of years.

Large factories from other places have moved into Chengdu

As early as more than ten years ago, major companies represented by Tencent, Shengqu Games and Perfect World had established branches in Chengdu to form teams to develop games. Tencent Chengdu’s performance is the most outstanding, and its research and development “Glory of the King” has become one of Tencent’s revenue pillars.

The abundant R&D talents in Chengdu attract foreign companies to settle in and establish branches. In the past year or two, companies such as Sanqi Mutual Entertainment, Youzu and IGG have established branches in Chengdu. According to incomplete statistics from the game teahouse, well-known manufacturers such as iQiyi, Xishanju, Hero Interactive Entertainment, NetDragon, Zulong Entertainment, Touch Technology, and 6Waves have established branches in Chengdu. It is understood that these branches are basically focused on R&D business and will expand more business lines in the future.

At the same time, some teams have moved to Chengdu from first-tier cities for various reasons, including PeakX Games, Sleeping Shenfei Studio, and Spades Interactive.

These manufacturers provide competitive salaries in the Chengdu market, especially some listed companies with deep pockets also provide salaries consistent with their headquarters. Such a salary undoubtedly meets the needs of Chengdu practitioners for “a lot of money and close to home”. In addition, these newly established manufacturers in Chengdu recruit more HC (head count, the number of employees expected to be recruited), which has promoted the flow of practitioners in Chengdu.

IGG provides salary that surpasses local manufacturers in Chengdu

The offers of these major manufacturers in Chengdu are undoubtedly quite attractive, bringing great competitive pressure to Chengdu’s local game manufacturers. However, large foreign companies have brought catfish effects, which objectively promoted the development of Chengdu’s game industry and brought “welfare” to Chengdu practitioners.

After the suspension of the game version number in 2018, the number of Chengdu game teams declined. In the past two years, many new game companies have been born in the Chengdu game circle, and there are many new companies established by senior gamers.

In this round of investment boom in the game industry, which of these distinctive start-up teams will eventually stand out and grow into a large game company?

A local listed game manufacturer’s role in promoting the local game industry is very obvious, such as Tencent for Shenzhen, Netease 37 Interactive Entertainment for Guangzhou, and Gigabit for Xiamen. After all, the money raised by listed companies will be invested heavily in games. R&D and operations. In the next few years, can we see local manufacturers in Chengdu go public?
