(News 24h) – Indonesia has arrested an Iranian tanker believed to be involved in the technical problem of the transport.
On January 25, an Iranian tanker and a Panamanian vessel were arrested by the Indonesian side on suspicion of illegally carrying oil in the Southeast Asian national waters.

In the latest statements, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said the country had asked Indonesia for details of the arrest of the Iran-flagged MT Horse.
Speaking at a press conference broadcast live on State Television, Khatibzadeh stressed that he had heard conflicting details about the arrest.
“We have asked for more details because there is a variety of information about this arrest,” – he said.
“This is a technical problem and this has happened in shipping” – added the spokesperson.
Khatibzadeh said Iran’s Maritime and Port Organization and its embassy in Indonesia are monitoring the issue and more information will be released.
The Indonesian government earlier said that crude oil tanker MT Horse carrying Iranian flag and MT Freya carrying the Panama flag was discovered on January 24 off Kalimantan, an area of Indonesia’s Borneo island and arrested after the crew failed radio response.
Indonesian officials say the ships “caught” are transferring oil from the MT Horse to the MT Freya and there is a speck of oil around the receiving vessel.
The tweet reads: “The Bakamla Coast Guard detained two tankers (MT Horse of Iran and MT Frea of Panama) in the waters of Pontianak, West Kalimantan, for violations of freedom of travel, in which There is the transfer of oil from ship to ship, shutting down the automatic identification system (AIS) and causing oil leaks. “
Indonesian Maritime Security Agency spokesman Wisnu Pramadita said the country’s authorities are escorting the two tankers to Batam Island in the Riau archipelago to continue the investigation.
Last year, Iran used the MT Horse to send 2.1 million barrels of condensate to Venezuela. Both of these countries have been punished by the US and have been exchanged for cooperation.
The incident comes just weeks after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Group detained a South Korean tanker in the country’s waters because of “environmental pollution”.
Iran has denied the arrest of a Korean ship worth more than $ 7 billion worth of Iranian money frozen by Seoul for fears of US sanctions, saying the problem was “technical” in nature.
Iran had to actively find ways to sell oil due to the impact of US sanctions. Earlier this week, Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh said “Iran’s oil exports and access to Iran’s oil money have increased significantly” without elaborating.
His remarks came days after Joe Biden was sworn in as the new president of the United States and was judged to save the nuclear deal that had been demolished by President Donald Trump.
