The number of more than 5 million jobs in China includes the workforce in local companies, research centers, distributors and mobile application developers on the App Store.
Apple also said it has earned about 20% of global revenue from the Chinese market in 2018, up $ 7 billion from a year ago.
US tech giant currently has 9 companies in China with 71 branches nationwide. The company also has 51 Apple Store retail stores in the country by the end of 2018.
The Wall Street Journal earlier revealed that Apple will produce a new Mac Pro computer in China, turning its unique equipment manufacturing line in the US into assembly plants around the world.
Also in the statement, Apple emphasized: "The new Mac Pro is designed and manufactured in California and uses components from several countries including the US. The final assembly is only part of the manufacturing process."
Apple is constantly expanding R&D activities in China, one of the largest consumer electronics markets in the world. Since 2017, the company has established four R&D centers in Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai and Suzhou. The cost of building these four centers is about $ 509 million and creates jobs for more than 1,000 people.
In 2018 alone, Apple recruited a total of 13.6 thousand Chinese people to work at its facilities in China.
