How to upgrade to Windows 10 for free

Basically, the steps to upgrade to Windows 10 for free from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 are the same as when Microsoft officially offered the update.

1. Check that you meet the hardware requirements

To install the latest version of Windows 10, you need the following:

CPU: Processor supported 1 GHz or faster (here is a list of supported processors)
RAM: 1 GB for Windows 10 32 bit or 2 GB for Windows 10 64 bit
Storage room: 32 GB or more space
GPU: DirectX 9 or later compatible with WDDM 1.0 driver
Pin up: Resolution 800 × 600 or higher
Internet connection: Some versions of Windows 10 require an Internet connection during installation.

If your Windows 7 machine does not meet these specifications, you will not be able to run Windows 10 – and even if your machine just meets the requirements, Windows 10 will not perform as well. We recommend at least a 2 GHz dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM (8 GB ideally) and a 160 GB hard drive for Windows 10 to work properly.
