(News 24h)
The IRGC successfully carried out the attack with 10 ballistic missiles at Ain Al-Asad military base.

A senior US military source in Iraq said on Monday that the US air base Ain Al-Asad in Iraq had been attacked by missiles from Iran.

According to ABC News, it is not only the military base Ain Al-Asad (referred to as Asad) that was attacked. Iran has also launched missiles at Erbil base in northern Iraq. A US official has confirmed this information.

Meanwhile, the IRGC confirmed on the morning of January 8 that it had launched dozens of rockets into the base in the presence of US forces.

“The brave soldiers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) space unit successfully carried out the attack with 10 ballistic missiles at the Ain Al-Asad military base, for General Qassem Soleimani” , IRGC said in a notice.

Hossein Soleimani, editor of Mashregh, IRGC’s main news site, said short-range ballistic missiles were fired at Asad base in Iraq’s Anbar province.

Iranian officials said the attack began at 1:20 on January 8, around the same time General Soleimani was killed by an American drone in Baghdad on January 3.

The attack came less than two hours after news of the missile hitting Taji Air Base, an Iraqi military base where US troops were deployed.

According to the New York Times, an American official said six rockets had landed on Asad air base, but could not confirm whether they were missiles.

Meanwhile, security sources told AFP that at least nine rockets were fired at the Asad base – where the US and its allied forces are stationed.

The White House press secretary said that US President Donald Trump was informed of the attack and is monitoring the situation with the national security team.

“Iran launches about 10 ballistic missiles at US military and coalition forces in Iraq. They are obviously launched from Iran and aimed at at least two military bases in Iraq with US and fellow military personnel.” I am Al-Assad and Irbil, “confirmed the Pentagon.

The Iranian missile attack took place shortly after the media reported that Tehran had prepared 13 scenarios to take revenge on the US after the killing of General Soleimani.

Specifically, the Iranian military said it was preparing to use medium to long-range missiles to attack US bases in the Middle East.
