In a media interview after the Honor Conference in Wuhan, Honor's Chairman George Zhao reaffirmed that his company will launch a 5G smartphone later this year. He said the device is called Honor V30 5G and uses the processor that Huawei will debut at IFA 2019.
As such, this is quite a clear acknowledgment that the Honor V30 5G will run Kirin 990, as this SoC will launch at IFA and China tomorrow. This is quite a big news if it's true, because basically the Honor head also confirmed the existence of the 5G variant of Honor V30.
According to previous reports, Kirin 990 5G will be the world's first 5G chip based on 7nm FinFET Plus EUV process. The biggest advantage of this process compared to the previous 7nm process is the addition of EUV etching technology to increase the transistor density. This enhances chip performance per unit area and reduces overall power consumption.
With so many competitors planning to enter the 5G market, it seems that in the near future we will see a very fierce competition. Hopefully this leads to some more affordable 5G smartphones in the future.
