The famous Tohoku hot spring group concentrated near the Ou Mountains
Located in the central watershed of the northeast is the Ou Mountain Range. In the Ou Mountain Range, there are towering volcanoes in the Nasu Volcanic Belt, such as Hakkoda Mountain, Kurikoma Mountain, Azuma Mountain, and Mt. Nasu. In addition, Hachimantai and Zao are also volcanoes. .
Because the Ou Mountain Range coincides with the Nasu Volcano Belt, almost all hot springs gush out near the Ou Mountain Range, and most of the famous hot springs in the Northeast are also concentrated near the Ou Mountain Range volcano.
My favorite hot spring trip is the “Hachimantai Journey” based in Morioka. After riding Hachimantai, crossing the Mitotoge at the junction of Iwate and Akita prefectures, follow National Highway No. 341 and go south to National Highway No. 46. On the way back to Morioka, you can also go to the Nyuto Onsen at the foot of Mount Nyuto and the hot springs at the southern foot of Mount Iwate.
There are about 30 hot springs on this “tour around Hachimantai” route, including steamed hot springs in Hachimantai or Gojokake hot springs, Matsukawa hot springs, Sunroku hot springs in Nyuto hot springs, Kuroyu hot springs, etc. All of them are not selected as the “Top Ten Hot Springs in Tohoku” but are also very famous hot springs.
At the end of the article, I will also present photos of hot springs that were not selected as the top ten hot springs in Tohoku in the “Hachimantai Tour”.
