Google shut down game studio Stadia and stopped developing the game itself

Google Stadia will shut down internal game studios. Instead, Google Stadia will focus on bringing third-party games to the streaming platform and serving games without a console or PC.

According to a source from Kotaku, Gooogle Stadia is canceling “many projects” including the launch schedule of the game next year. Two game development studios of Stadia will be closed: one in Montreal (Canada) and one in Los Angeles (USA). However, Google said it will find new positions for the development team within the company when it closes the studio.

One of the head of this studio is the creator of the Assassin’s Creed series, Jade Raymond. He signed a contract with Google to head Stadia’s Game and Entertainment division. According to Kotaku, Raymong will leave Google during this restructuring. Instead of developing its own exclusive games, Stadia will focus on developing their technology for other publishers while still offering a monthly subscription service, Stadia Pro.

In the official announcement, Google Stadia said the rising cost of AAA game development was the reason why they decided to stop investing in the internal development team.

“What does this mean if you’re a current or future Stadia gamer? You can continue to play any game on Stadia and Stadia Pro, and we will continue to bring new games from third parties to the platform, ”the notice noted. “We continue to focus on cloud-based gaming for the future and will continue to drive the industry forward.”

Unfortunately, what Stadia’s Game and Entertainment segment has developed over the past two years remains unknown.
