What are functional exercises

Functional exercises are nothing more than a way of taking physical activity from gyms to friendliest environments and make your workouts less monotonous than using gym equipment. Thus, functional training has the main characteristics of being carried out in large spaces or outdoors, having reduced use of equipment and generally involving the performance of exercise integrated circuits.

Exercise circuits in functional training

Exercise circuits are a way of increase workload performed by the functional training practitioner avoiding repeated work interruptions in gyms. A simple example of a circuit, for example, is a sequence of skipping rope, running between cones and lifting weights. In general, functional training is all done on exercise circuits.

Functional exercises for the abdomen

Functional exercises for the abdomen are logically based on a sit-up circuit and who may or may not alternate specific exercises with running or not. Among the exercises in this workout are classic sit-ups, leg lift, plank and alternative forms of sit-ups. Check out some of them here.

Functional hypertrophy exercises

The practice of functional exercises can be useful for hypertrophy. For this, the practitioner must focus his actions on strength exercises using, for example, dumbbells, shin pads and weights in rings. Like any other form of exercise for hypertrophy, he must have the supervision and guidance of a physical education professional. The practitioner should also not try to go beyond his limits at risk of suffering major muscle injuries.

Functional exercises to lose weight

Functional training can also be effective in promoting weight loss. For this, contrary to the objective of hypertrophy, the practitioner should seek to increase the load of aerobic exercises, such as circuits between cones, running and skipping ropes.
