A common problem on MacOS is Airdrop is not working And this usually happens when you try to send files from one Apple device to another Apple device. It is annoying and prevents data sharing between your devices. When you encounter such a situation, please use the following fixes to otherwise fix the error of sending data with AirDrop.
Make sure your devices can be found together
You need to make sure that both your iPhone and Mac can detect each other while using AirDrop.
1. On iPhone / iOS phones
Step 1. Launch the application Setting and click General (General).
Step 2. Touch AirDrop on the next screen.
Step 3. Select Everyone (Everybody). This will allow anyone to find your iPhone in AirDrop.
2. On a Macbook
Step 1. Launch window Finder and click AirDrop on the left sidebar.
Step 2. Select Everyone from the options drop-down menu Allow me to be discovered by.
Bring your devices together
AirDrop uses Bluetooth to find and connect devices. As you probably know, Bluetooth has a range of 10 meters to make a connection. Therefore, you should make sure that both your AirDrop-compatible devices are within 10 meters. Otherwise, AirDrop will not work.
Once you’re eligible, try sending your file again using AirDrop.
Make sure your iPhone is unlocked
While sharing files with your iPhone, make sure it’s unlocked and working. If it is in sleep mode and locked with a passcode, you will have trouble sending files from other devices to your iPhone.
Keeps your iPhone unlocked, awake and visible while using AirDrop on it. This will keep your phone free from any AirDrop issues.
Turn off and then re-enable WiFi and Bluetooth on your device
AirDrop uses both WiFi and Bluetooth to help you share files between your devices. When AirDrop isn’t working, you should try toggling these options and see if that fixes the problem for you.
1. Turn off and then re-enable WiFi and Bluetooth on iPhone
Step 1. Launch the application Setting on your iPhone
Step 2. Click WIFI and turn it off.
Step 3. Click Bluetooth and turn it off.
Step 4. Turn on both WIFI and Bluetooth.
Turn off and then re-enable WiFi and Bluetooth on the Mac
Step 1. Click the icon WIFI at the top of the Mac screen and select Turn Wi-Fi Off.
Step 2. Click the icon Bluetooth and choose Turn Bluetooth Off.
Step 3. Turn on both WiFi and Bluetooth.
Turn off WiFi hotspot on iPhone
AirDrop is not working when you have your personal hotspot turned on. This will make the Internet unavailable on devices that use your hotspot. You need to turn it off in order to use AirDrop to share files, and be able to re-enable it after completing your AirDrop file transfer.
Step 1. Launch the application Setting on your iPhone
Step 2. Click Mobile Data (Mobile data).
Step 3. Select Personal Hotspot (Personal hotspot).
Step 4. Switch the switch for Personal Hotspot to off position.
Connect both of your devices to the same WiFi network
If your AirDrop-enabled devices are connected to a WiFi network, you should connect both of your devices to the same WiFi network. Apple doesn’t specifically say that both of your devices should be on the same network. However, in my personal experience, using the same network connection will help.
If possible, make sure both your iOS device and your Mac are on the same WiFi network.
Turn off Do Not Disturb on your device
Do not disturb will mute all notifications on your device, and this also includes AirDrop notifications. Since you will not receive notification for an incoming file, you will not be able to accept or decline it. Therefore, turn off do not disturb mode when you use AirDrop.
1. Turn off do not disturb mode on iPhone
Step 1. Open the application Setting and click Do Not Disturb (Do not bother).
Step 2. Turn off options Do not bother.
2. Turn off do not disturb mode on the Mac
Step 1. Click the icon Notification Center (Notification Center) in the top right corner of the screen.
Step 2. Switch the switch Do Not Disturb (Do not disturb) to the off position.
Turn off the firewall option on the Mac
The Mac’s firewall has an option to block all connections to your machine. This can also affect the AirDrop connection, so you should disable this option.
Step 1. Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the screen and select System Preferences (System Preferences).
Step 2. Select Security & Privacy (Security & Privacy) on the following screen.
Step 3. Click the tab Firewall and choose Firewall Options.
Step 4. If the buttons go gray on the screen, click the padlock icon at the bottom and enter your account password.
Step 5. Uncheck the box with content Block all incoming connections (Block all incoming connections) and press OK at the bottom.
Reset network settings on iPhone
If AirDrop still isn’t working on your iPhone, try resetting your network settings to factory settings. This will fix problems with network configurations, and you can reconfigure these options later.
Step 1. Open the application Setting on your iPhone and tap General (General).
Step 2. Scroll all the way down and tap Reset.
Step 3. Select Reset Network Settings.
Update your device’s operating system
Finally, make sure that both of your devices are running the latest version of their respective operating systems. If not, update their OS version and that will most likely fix the AirDrop not working issue.
1. Update iPhone
Step 1. Open the application Setting and click General (General).
Step 2. Click Software Update (Software Update) at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Click Download and Install (Download and Install) if an update is available. This will download the update and install it on your device.
2. Update Mac
Step 1. Click the Apple logo in the upper left corner of the screen and select About This Mac.
Step 2. Click the button Software Update on the following screen.
Step 3. It will take you to the Mac App Store to download and install macOS updates if available.
Bonus: In my personal experience, the ultimate solution you can do is restart macOS or iPhoneUsually, every time I do the final solution of restarting my device, I can easily use AirDrop to transfer photos or videos to my friends.
You can apply this method if you cannot transfer data between iPhone & iPhone or iPhone & iPad, …
